I used to practise at the cemetery in Hamilton particularly for learning how to reverse around corners with a trailer which is a useful skill to learn early on. Karori and Taita cemeteries would be suitable and there is little traffic to hold you up. I could make some jokes about driving and the cemetery but I won't. Just learn to be as good driving backwards as forwards which some find hard to do but is essential.

Oh no, not another end of the world prediction

For absolute beginners, a drive around the Miramar Peninsula - 40 km/h for most of it. There are cyclists sunny mornings, evenings and weekends, but if you plan around that it is very quiet and easy.

Once a bit further along, Seatoun is good. Relatively quiet, but lots of intersections to practice give way and stop and go.
