Yes, possibly. But it was in full view back in 2009 & 2016. They need to be consistent.

Rules change / terms and conditions are updated over time

I asked that question. My policy conditions are the same as when the policy was issued back in 2006.

Even if you leave the suction cups / brackets up... a good thief will know to simply check ya glovebox etc. Given you have lost three now for the same reasons... perhaps best to get a concealed radar install instead.

Would love to get a concealed one but at $2400 it's out of budget. To replace the stolen one is $1200.

I would have to say that in general if I am staying say in a motel or airbnb yes, but if I am in my sleepy suburban culd de sac less so, but even then one might think twice about leaving expensive tools or such in the front garden on display.

Yip. To me it would seem pretty clear, given that is what was said in the online chat and that it is very clearly a car accessory.

If they were to decline coverage for not taking due care they have to state that. If they haven't stated this it isn't relevant. Similarly I can't see why paying previous claims is relevant as the policy wording seems unambiguous to me.

Now on a proper keyboard IANAL but seems quite clear to me based on that excerpt that vehicle accessories are NOT covered under your contents policy while they are in the vehicle or attached to them. Your radar detector would have been covered if someone broke into your house and stole it from there, but not while it was in your car.

The policy may have changed from the last claims, or simply they paid out on the last claims when they should not have. Could they ask for the money back? Unlikely, does it set a precedent?...no, there is plenty of legal support that companies are not bound by an honest mistake.

Sorry I don't think you have a leg to stand on under this policy. You should have a look at your vehicle policy, there may be something in there.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Common sense applies. Would you leave your phone sitting on the dashboard when you park your car? Same applies to the detector. I don’t have much sympathy - particularly where the item is designed to help break the law.

Of course people can’t and don’t hide all house contents - not great logic there either.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for this question to be asked.

I travel circa 60k kms a year. I have my cruise control set to 105kmh when on the open road. The detector is a safeguard for the odd time I'm not paying attention and drop to another speed limit. Every time it goes off, I check my speed to make sure I'm ok. 99.5% of the time I'm ok. It's just a reminder for me.

Now if anybody wants to come back at me and cast assumptions about me based on the fact I use a Radar Detector, don't bother unless you drive at or less than the posted speed limit 100% of the time. No such person exists.

And women should be able to walk the streets at night - by themselves, dressed however they like. However, to do so is to ignore reality and invites trouble from those prone to giving it.

After reading your initial post the first thing that sprang to mind is exactly what @scuwp has said a couple of times now. It'd be great if you can get something sorted out with your insurance company but if I was you I wouldn't be getting my hopes up too high. There's a couple of lawyers that visit these forums every now and again. I'm sure if one of them sees this they'll chime in with a [potentially] more accurate opinion.

I’ve just re-read the wording of the policy - and I’d have to agree now with @scuwp - that wording seems to indicate cover when the goods are in the vehicle, but after re-reading it it does appear that this excludes goods that are in the vehicle.

Context of that section of the policy might make it more obvious.

Last year we had a $2k camera stolen from our car which was parked in our driveway. My wife had been out with the kids and simply forgot to bring it in the house.

Claim accepted no problem.
