for someone who is nearly deaf, this sudden desire to use the footpath as a road is awful and i wish it would stop, i cant count the number of times bikes scooters have screamed pass me and i have never heard them comming, i shudder to think what would happen if i suddenly moved left or right.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

You couldn't pay me to ride one, but for those who want to do it, ride on the road, not the FOOTpath.

BRITISH
a path for pedestrians in a built-up area; a pavement.

I cant believe councils have allowed them to do this.

Dumping thousands of scooters after just a few months is not an issue? If Uber is genuinely recycling the majority of components, then maybe not, but if the majority are going are going into landfill, then it is an issue.

We allow Uber to operate with no social responsibility at all. We allow them to clog our streets with their scooters, months later dumping them into our environment.

And why? Just to cater to a small few who can't be bothered to use their legs to walk. (And, yes, for me, there is a difference between people who purchase e-scooters as a long term replacement for a daily commute, versus those who pick an up a disposable Uber in the street to save themselves having to walk 500 metres).

And even if they don't end up in landfill, consider how many of them probably get thrown into the harbour by idiots. What impact does the Li-Ion battery discharge have on the marine life?

I am curious as to how much it costs to use these things. I often see people riding them from the railway station to their office which would be, in most cases, about 500 metres as you say. If it's about $3 per trip and people are doing it twice a day on every weekday then it would be costing them over $120 per month.

Seems like a huge waste of money to me.

Its legal to ride them on the footpath under NZ law. Infact the reason why many might not ride them on the road is because they would have to be in the cycle lane and that would not be legal.

You've quoted me out of context. That was in reply to dumping e-scooters after 6 months and my rebuttal was from the viewpoint of owner-riders who will not dump their e-scooters every 6 months and buy a new one.

We were around Queens Wharf today, because of the Navy ship, the Waka and Endeavour there was a lot of people including a lot of children. The speed some scooter and bike riders were doing through the crowds was ridiculous. We saw an elderly gent get knocked down by a scooter rider who did not even stop to check that he was okay. These idiots need to start using what brain cells they have left and act according to conditions.

Well, maths would tell me that those that have used it from day one, probably have more experience. Not every boomer is a cardigan clad pensioner.
