The "National Commercial List Price" dropped like a stone then after a week of lock-down when they realised that the dropping the price did not increase demand it went up about 12c and stayed there until 3 weeks ago.

It has gone up 6c to7c per week since then

I'm sure it it will continue like that until demand drops or people start screaming (and demand drops)

Yes the tax would need to be found from elsewhere but I doubt the prices would creep back up as you suggest. For that to happen the margins would have increased significantly thus opening the door for another operator to enter the market or for the likes of Gull or Waitomo to increase their presence in the market.

As for the notion of the government pruning their budget to allow a drop in the petrol excise is all very nice but what does it prune? health, education, welfare, roads?

Fuel excise tax it hypothecated into the Land Transport fund, if it reduces the money spent on roads ( and now rail) will also fall,

(or require to be topped up from general taxation, thus taking from other government spending)

I had expected the price to jump back up before the majority of people could use it. The 11c/kWh for my "fuel" hasn't changed 🙂

9 weeks here now and the light has just come on. Was going to fill today but didnt have hand sanitizer in that one to use after touching the handle. Not like I can use my foot like with pedestrian cross buttons.

I filled up last week and used some expiring vouchers and ended up "saving" $23 on a fill.

Wasn't bad - normally a very expensive exercise filling my car, but wasn't too painful this time around. No doubt this was the last time I'll be pain-free at the pump.

The Govt promised to "fix the fuel market" but haven't said yet what they're going to fix. Based of the badly done Commerce Commission report it's not surprising they don't know.

Maybe they're going to stop petrol being sold below cost? Obviously that will result in petrol prices increasing in some areas.

I thought they came out with electric car incentive

I often have to fill my car three times a week, current tank is about six weeks also!! Though car is not thirsty at all.
