MadEngineer: This is why I love the transaction notifications I get from my banks’s app.

Mind telling me who you bank with? ASB charging me 20c per SMS notification is not worthwhile imo.

Westpac. it's not a txt, rather it's a notification from one of their apps

I use CashNav and find its notification feature excellent. Often you’ll get notifications within 2 seconds or less of the transaction going through.

On a side note: Westpac also gives you free sms notifications, eg. Low balance, internet banking sign in, changed payers etc. used them at no cost for years.

I rarely have to pay to park unless I visit Wellington. I was really miffed that they did away with the text parking thing, that was so easy. This sounds like a right PITA.

With Paywave/Paypass/Credit-Debit card acceptance/Pay by App on parking meters, I believe most folks have migrated from text parking... its relatively complex to complete transactions and I don't think the volumes justified keeping it.

It was handy for those of us who live where paid parking barely exists but occasionally visit places it does.
I didn’t even know there was an app.....!

I wonder if it’s the same as here in Whangārei, when you do payWave (don’t know if it’s the same for chip & pin / swipe), but it does the beep then says are you willing to pay the extra charge for card usage, only then does it actually approve for parking. Annoying but no other option since I don’t carry cash 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hah! I didn't even realise that you could do paywave at the machines. I've been using mpark for years, and it's been so easy. My wife likes it too, cos she just calls me and asks me for "Zone 3, 2 hours" sort of thing.

Dunedin has a pay park app where you enter the number of parking machine and given prices and ability to buy time in 15 minute block. Also able to buy open ended ticket which you cancel once back at your car. Can also extend your park.

Today I got lots of the way through buying time but didn't press the last confirmation step but put my phone in pocket and the app beeped to say transaction not completed.

App also beeps at you when time running out.

That sounds like a very end user focused app!

PayMyPark? Wellington has this app too. Mostly works really well.

I do find the car horn sound reminding you that your parking is running out surprises me every time. But that is probably a good thing - definitely focusses attention.

Aha I am tempted to sift through them all  (the Complaints) to see if i can build a picture of whats going on, however i'm not one to breach others privacy.

My wife says just pay the fine and forget about it, but the principle of is hard for me to accept.

If I don't pay the fine it goes to court which cost another $30, I wonder do the courts listen to reason and common sense?

They do, but what they really like is evidence.

I would say they do not, and that they really only like evidence.

I was going to try my chance with the courts and put in a request for information at Rotorua Lakes council asking what should display on screen when a transaction fails.

They replied saying after consideration they are waiving my infringement fee on the grounds that it was a genuine mistake made by the customer who has walked away before the machine displayed an error message.
I didn’t get my answer on what errors should display from them? and will categorically state, I did not walk away I got no error message.
