I have one of those... well, its still in learning mode - attempts to do the dishes but breaks a few - havent let it loose with the lawn mower yet.

Its 2.5yrs old and runs off a daily intake of sugar.

Interrested ?

I'm lucky enough to have three models! It does take time for the units to be considered truly useful. However in saying that, note that the older 18 year old model now flat refuses to operate in any environment on any task you need completed. This includes mowing the lawn, which was usually done with a lot of static and noisy feedback. The 15 year old model, after some gentle persuasion and a few grumbling noises, will satisfactorily wash dishes and on occasion even wash laundry and hang out/bring in said laundry and, if we're very lucky, even vacuum! The 9 year old model is, like yours xpd, still in learning mode but manages to take out the recycling and assist the 15 year old model with dishes (except when there seem to be compatibility issues between the two models and they need to be physically separated to obtain timely completion of said task!). The two younger models still have issues cleaning bedrooms however the older model has never had much of an issue in this area, so there has obviously been a software corruption affecting the later models which I'll probably have to keep working on.

So there is eventually a return on investment. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen!

If all else fails, I go back to the slightly older but usually far more reliable model the W.I.F.E. (It's a joke ladies! /me hides). Incidently, the W.I.F.E. functions well with activities like lawn mowing also, which can be a bonus when I can't be bothered.

Back on topic, I used to work for a VIA distributor and was looking at making a 'carputor' with a mini-ITX board. I held off at the time as the nano-itx boards were due out. Try as I might the boss wouldn't bring any in, not even a "test" model for me to use. Never happened. I did put a mini-ITX board into an old VCR chassis though back before DVR style devices were cost effective and easily obtained. might even look at rebuilding it now with the newer faster gear that's available.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

xpd: Why ? Why not ?
ICE - In Car Entertainment

Might as well say "why" to having a radio in the car..... :)

I dont have a radio in the car - just a big hole in the dash with a 3.5mm cable hanging out of it.

Its not needed to have a headdeck when you have a MP3 player. Paying heaps for something that just acts as a volume control between MP3 player and amp most of the time is a bit silly IMO...

It looks flasher with a proper stereo, and it lets me switch to an mp3 cd to save power when the engine isnt running. You make a good point so i might take it out and put the cb / scanner there.

Pictured finally loaded for me on the shaped BS slingshot connection, nice job BTW.

How do you find the eee screen for readability with light onit? Friend has a chinavasion 2din dvd player which is hopeless for anything except at night time.

i thought that was going to be a problem but it seems to be ok in the sunlight.
I have the eee turned up in brightness and it is really really good. At night after a set time, media engine can change its theme - you can make a darker version of the daytime one, and/or it can dim itself.

Car headdecks take a suprisingly large amount of power even if you are not using the inbuilt amp (unless you can switch it off), since they are H bridges off a single rail they have a large bias current to try to keep a constant 7v or so on each side of the bridge. even more if you are driving the inbuilt amp into clipping since they seem to have stupid amounts of gain on them

I saw 2 amps with mine up loud, and the CD still got really really hot despite no speakers connected to it.

I just see no value in something that only plays an obsolete format. For the junk car I got the cheap one from te warewhare that does SD and USB and an aux in because I dont buy CD-Rs anymore. No rear inputs which sucks.
