shiver: Here are my wheels at the moment.
A bit heavy on the fuel and quite often gets me to work late, but
it's hard to beat the closeness you feel with the other smelly passengers.

Shiver has no car :(((

In the interests of doing my bit for the environment, I take the bus to and from work every day and I'm quite happy to put up with the smelly passengers if it means that I don't have to incur the cost of petrol, parking and maintenance. The other advantage is that I can drink myself into oblivion after work on Fridays and not have to worry about getting my car home!

I won't share my own wheels again because last time we had this discussion, everyone was making fun of it because it's a chick's car. Cry

I actually dislike driving in traffic, so I don't mind the bus that much. However, the trip is about 1.5-2 hours one way.
Really saps the energy from you every day... so I'm looking to move closer to work :)

i'm extremely lucky, my ideal job also happened to be a 5 minute walk!

last job was a 3/4 hour crawl through traffic through pakuranga and horrible east tamaki. oh and the last job sucked too! lol.

Yeah, the length of time between leaving home and arriving at work in the morning is about 45 minutes when the buses are running to schedule and I don't live that far away from the Wellington CBD. I drove home from work one day last week, and it only saved me about five minutes compared with catching the bus. When you think about it, that's 7.5 hours each week spent commuting, which is a huge amount of time.

I could probably run from here to town in about 60 minutes, but there are no showers at work and the though of running home again after a long day at work is not very appealing.

Brad... Different body and colour? Can't be considered the same car then...

Biking, motor or manual, not an option?

I like both - Johnr's Suzie is drool-worthy - but riding a bicycle in Auckland at least requires strong nerves... people drive like they intend to kill you.

Toyota Hiace
My ride is Toyota Hiace 1992, 2.4 diesel van with 5 seats and I am converting it to a campervan. High roof will be added shortly.

I live a bit alternative lifestyle and spend a lot of time on the road and camping in the bush. My van is my second home.
So often I am in no hurry and can avoid rush hours as I am already home with everything I need in my van.
I have mobile internet using Telecom Mobile Broadband Data Card on my laptop, works pretty fast. Previously used Vodafone GPRS, which was painfully slow and expensive.

I am slowly adding features like paging alarm which uses CB frequency instead of cellphone, energy saving LED lighting, LCD TV and already have a good Kenwood stereo system with 6 speakers.
Cellphone is old trusty Nokia 6310i with carkit and external antenna.

My gadgets:
NEC Versa S3200 Laptop running Linux Mint 9 and Win XP

3x I-mate Jasjam, one running WM6.1 and others WM5.1, all working with VF and Telecom XT
Canon Powershot SX120 Digital camera
Various old phones like Nokia 6310, Nokia 6610 and ancient Nokia 1610, all with carkits.
Greenspeed Gto recumbent trike with Rohloff 14 speed Speedhub, altogether 42 speed.
No TV, no microwave and no washing machine. ( Not enough space in my van for those) I live a mobile lifestyle, call me nomad if you wish but gypsy I am not.
Have started my epic journey from Bluff to Cape Reinga on my recumbent trike supported with my van so I can carry all my gadgets with me and sleep in a comfy bed.
