It seems they are also now using Radio Text. All track info is displayed.

Which is actually very annoying, and breaches the actual RDS design spec.

The ability to have song titles and other information is part of the RDS spec (radio text or RT) and can be displayed on devices that support RT such as a home stereo. RT is not typically on a car stereo because it serves as a driver distraction. TRN are basically hijacking the spec to display this on a typical car stereo that doesn't support RT.

I actually like it. I have text for everything else, IE mp3's, even caller ID. Why should I not have it for Radio Track information too?

My Pioneer stereo fully supports RT. Its even listed in the manual

On a separate note: How can we get the Wiki Page updated?

Because there are standards for the user interface for systems in car so as to not distract drivers. That is why they all only have 8 character displays on them, radio text is 8 characters and is not supposed to be scrolling or frequently changing text.

All the other stuff us supposed to go into the radio text field, not the PS name. it also means that the preset names on a home theater or whatever get renamed to useless things like "PLAYING" and similar crap.

IMO it is time that it became part of the technical standards that stations have to adhiere to that they can only broadcast one PS and it needs to be one that they apply for as part of getting their license. Also RDS with AF should be mandatory for all nationwide networked stations. Its not expensive to broadcast and they have no excuse really, again its a safety thing so people are not messing around with their radios which you always see on the downhill side of the bombays with people weaving all over the place.

When ZM was recievable at the bombays from the waikato it would just seemlessly flick over to the other frequancy. Since they have moved most of the waikato stations to a useless transmitter that doesnt happen now.

I agree with this and would like to see happen sooner rather than later. If we don't listen to or support stations that do not comply with what should really be a standard they would soon get on board.

When I tune my Hifi at home to The Breeze I get "BREEZE" which is a nice concise confirmation of what I'm listening to. When I tune to Radio Live I get this awful 8 character scrolling mess that has clearly been shoehorned into the wrong field as others have described above. I am perplexed as to why Mediaworks would do this.

In the stereo on my old car, best tune memory which it did when it had the battery disconnected seemed to opt for RDS carrying stations over ones without. That alone should prompt them into getting their A into G with RDS.
