Just had a look in their catalogue and it might be the 350GT Four Type P you are looking at as that costs a fair bit more than the base one. You're right though, it's the same chassis for the Fwd and 4wd.

I've had a quick look at the sales stats on that and they're selling for landed cost between $25k and $32k for grade 4-5 GT four type P and $20k to $27k for the GT four.

There was never a crossover in the 350GT range - it's branded the 370GT though. It looks like all the Crossovers got the Type P specs and some of them get the name as well. Usually only the GT4/NJ50 models.

I've done a lot of research on these damn cars and the only constant seems to be you have to look at the buttons in the car before you can tell what options it has.

Woops sorry it does say 370GT., I'm sort of paying attention while I'm watching TV. I looks like the P gets leather seats and optional wood paneling. It's about 500k yen more new for the type P one so there must be some differences.

They appear professional but I have not used them so I can't say for certain.

If nothing else they seem to have a lot of useful information. Things like which auction houses have extra freight costs and which parts of Japan have the rusty cars.

I also wonder how you can avoid buying a car that reeks of cigarette smoke.

It turns out that Ovalconnect and carwebs use the same system and at any given time have exactly the same cars available. I did some searching and found only good comments about carwebs so I actually placed a bid last night on a car selling this evening (our time) with carwebs. Hopefully today they will contact me with more details and the translation etc of the auction sheet.

Update. This particular model is VERY VERY badly described on all the auction sheets. So far it's not been possible to correctly identify if a single car has the features I want from the auction sheet (even with proper translation)...

carwebs has been very helpful and patient (and I sense a little surprised at the inaccuracy of the sheets for this model) and have had a physical look at a couple of cars I placed bids on. Neither car had the features I am after.

Same with me. I have used IBC 3 times and friends have done the same. REALLY easy to import a car and you save a small fortune. I also find them more honest than local dealers.

I had a look at the IBC site and they list only a tiny fraction of the cars available on the other sites mentioned, but I did fill out a request form on IBC - so I'll see if they have any luck finding something suitable.

It's great hearing from people that have ACTUALLY USED these services.

Lots of costs, some risk. And yes, you need to get the car complied. All of the sites listed have details on what's required. I found the carwebs.co.nz site to have a good breakdown of the costs and what needs to be done.
