mattwnz: This is a video everyone buying a new car should watch. Also many of the points apply if you are buying second hand. The guy doing the videos is a bit like the new version of the Dog and Lemon guide for the 21st century.

Edit: For some reason I can't embed the video as the code disappears, so this is the link https://www.youtube.com/embed/OJTi4Cu2yF4

Interesting and some good points I am sure (all common sense) BUT... It's all an advertisement for his car brokering service.

I don't have a problem if the advert isn't in your face, and it is providing useful info, and most videos like this on youtube are an advert in some way, as they have to be paid.

I count about 8 odd Colt Ralliart V R's on TM ranging from $9600 (a 2007 with 88000k's) at the end of the day it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It will always be less as a trade in, the car yard is in business to make money. The plus side is trading makes it easy to get rid of your car quickly.

Most dealers would rather have a straight car that hasn't been modified, I also look for a straight car when buying.

I also like the protection of buying through a car yard. Anyway cars are always a mugs game.

For sure, I lost so much money on cars :(. My MR2 soaked up about $50,000 over 11 years I owned (purchase price, mods, maintainence), loved every minute of it though, stunning scenary, winding roads...cant put a price on it :).

I'm sort of the opposite, ill quite happily pay a fair price if a car has already had some quality mods...saves me having to do them (depends what they are though).

Ive been watching Colts on JCAbid and TradeMe for about 1 year now and while there are a small handful on TradeMe most of them lack the 5 speed and Recaro Seats. Also noted the prices have crept up about $2000 on average as fewer ones are coming out of Japan, I believe alot end up in UK, Australia, Singapore where they have a tuner\cult following. The 2010 one for $13k looks nice in gun metal.

Regret selling my AW11 was my first car, also the best handling. If only it was a little larger I might have kept it, but it was also due for a lot of work. Would buy another, supercharged white with targa roof would be great.

But I've wasted a lot of money on cars.

Yeah agree, I had a 1988 AW11 Supercharger once, the SW20 took about $2000 worth of suspension work to get even marginally close to the handling of the AW11.

Really should have kept it and done a 3SGTE conversion, would have been epic...and cheaper.
