Will they list a NZ price on website before you place deposit ?

A.

They must do unless the deposit is refundable.   Can't put a deposit on something without knowing a price.

Potentially this thing might sell for over 100k nzd (nz tax) in which case I'm out haha.

the deposit is refundable at anytime, and in reality is a reservation to buy on, so  not really a deposit.

But if Telsa want to become a mainstream car company they really need to drop all this "2 years until with get to market" rubbish, it might work for supercars, but if GM are churning out Bolts by the thousand in 2017 Telsa are gonna have a real hard road to hoe....

If you pre-register now, you have at least 18 months to figure out how you are going to pay for it....

The eagle has landed!

They have received 115k pre-orders in the last (first?) 24 hours.

It's going to land in New Zealand along with a network of charging stations

The styling is very similar to the Model S. I think their idea must have been to associate it with the S's premium reputation as much as possible. The tyres look expensive.

Yep GM is GM,  a very large company with huge and proven production facilities, but Tesla is still trying to find its feet and has a so far proven record of late delivery.

I really hope Tesla manage to grow rapidly and successfully because I think they deserve success.

I would buy one as my next car if the pricing and specs work out.

NZ should be embracing electric vehicles, but I can't figure the outright hatred some people seem to harbour against EV'S.

Tesla interests me but a viable charging network is a long way off. There is a company putting some in but from memory there is less than ten locations. Electric has no chance until recharging locations are readily available and the speed of recharging vastly improved.

Electric would do me fine. Plenty of range for from home to anywhere I need to go. If the airport parking places have a charge while you're away and it's full when you're back then it would be all I would need.

Where do people drive all the time that 300ish km isn't enough?

Wellington to New Plymouth, Wellington to Taupo, Christchurch to Nelson, Christchurch to Queenstown...there are heaps of routes I've driven that are well over 300km.

Design wise, it's not my cup of tea.

The no front grill look I don't like, nor do I care much for that huge touch screen in the middle of the dash. I'm guessing it uses a heads up display to project your speed onto the windscreen in front of the driver.

And why if you are making an all electric car, why give it a full one piece panoramic glass roof?!?! Why not give it a carbon fibre roof, make it weigh a little less and improve range?

No need to park at the airport, the Tesla will drive itself home & come get you when you land. Maybe not in 2017, but it's not that far away.

Hmm so this is the future of traffic congestion huh - every man's unmanned car(s) trying to go places!

I think the future will be less ownership and more johnnycab mixed with uber, since there will be no human cost, should be as cheap as a shenzhen taxi.

I do look forwards to cars that try to not harm cyclists ... might finally get a road bike then ... and when it rains take a Tesla ...
