Get the no bull opinion from John Cadogan. Quite a funny read/watch. He recommends the Mitsi Triton, Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50s over the rest.

Another good review site is http://www.caradvice.com.au/

Not sure how relevant these are considering they may be outside your price bracket.

Remember he is talking new. The OP's budget is circa $25K so unless a basic set up we are looking a used.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Getting some good advice here. Keep it coming. I am resigned to the fact I will be after a late model with high ks.

I keep hearing good things about the Isuzu D-Max.

Manual 6 speed Rangers apparently have gearbox issues if owners do too much towing in top gear. The top gear ring isn't robust enough for the engine torque. If you don't tow heavy loads in top gear they last OK.

Anecdotal, from family members with either direct experience or knowledge of owners who have had issues.

I was told the same from a large gearbox rebuilder in Auckland, they'd done a few of them at 30k.

Just to rap this up, I ended up buying a Holden Colorado 2014. All I need now is a canopy. Can anyone recommend a good canopy maker for a double cab. Also my 94 toyota surf is for sale.

Keep an eye on the oil level Holden had trouble with excessive oil usage on that model.
