I have found the nav system in the mazdas infotainment centre sucks, and would put me off buying anoher mazda, but it is the only thing apart from road noise, that put me off mazdas. Although I think the new models may have apple car play built in. The CX-5 is ok, but I understand it is essentially a heavier and higher mazda 3 , and you can buy mazda 3s a lot cheaper new  than cx5s new, and the mazda 3 is actually nice to drive if you get a 2.5 litre one, such as the SP25.

 

 

You're comparing the wrong vehicles there, so for sure the 3 will seem way better value  - the more accurate comparison with the CX5 is with the 6.

 

 

 

The mazda 3 and cx5 I understand do share the  same platform as one another, and the interior footprint of he cx5 isn't that much larger than the mazda 3. . If don't know if any models share the mazda 6 platform, maybe the cx9, although I can't find any reference to that?

I understand the smaller CX3 SUV, and mazda 2,both share the same platform as well, yet the mazda 2 is a lot cheaper than the cx3.But the cx3 does appeal to a lot of people as small suvs are very popular cars to buy.
