I'm now starting to accept the fact that I will be SOOL.

I suspect even the insurance company's own staff have been confused by that particular wording over time and someone there has finally said "this doesn't mean what you think it does".

I’m with AMI and one day thought I’d better check if my tool box and contents that’s sometimes in my personal vehicle would be covered for theft. Their answer was that I’d be covered if the toolbox was in the vehicle temporarily and not if they were left in there all the time

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

just on the due care issue.  I was covered after a break in when the door was left unlocked.  Theft is theft.

Yes. The car was in full view, did we forget to turn on the cloaking device ?

Just checked my house, I can see that from the street, ouch :-)

So I have a Tom Tom, does this mean I have to take it everywhere I go once parked the car.

Into the restaurant, and into the picture Theatre with me.

Or is the issue the OP doesn’t own the car.

I had a motorbike crash, and had to claim my Helmet through contents even though it’s needed for riding motor bike, so got stung for two access’s. Other person at fault but they had no insurance or money so court action against them useless.

Our car got stolen out of our driveway a couple of weeks ago. The proximity key was in it (a credit card sized fob, for a Mazda). Normally it would have been in my wife's purse, but she'd wither taken it out, or it fell out onto the floor. Anyway, thieves got in the car and drove it off.

When I called the insurer that night, they asked about the key, but didn't refuse cover.

Luckily, car was found an hour after I reported it - no damage, nothing taken from it except the mirror ornament thing (the change in the cup holder still there, wife's new $300 trainers and a bottle of wine still on the back seat). Insurance still told us we could take it to a garage for a check over at their cost if we wanted. Car is fine.

That's fortunate!

I don't think people realise the scale of theft ex-car in this country. It's huge. I leave nothing of value in my cars.

Better check if your personal policy covers when/if you use personal car for work (driving to onsite jobs)

I have to use my personal car for work occasionally(driving to onsite jobs) . So insurance companies said I therefore cant use a personal car policy, I had to pay extra for a business policy.
