Could everyone get calm right about now and go back to the original topic "Thoughts on the Dura-Seal Ceramic Coatings when buying a new car?" or everyone gets a good seven days in the cooler.

I have just removed a page of off-topic replies on how/where to park and public shaming.

Sorry internet dad for causing you troubles.

Oh, you didn't cause any troubles. Just other people veering too off-topic so had to put this back on track.

Back on the topic.....

The Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions system seems pretty good for DIY.

I'm only using the the WashnWax part of the system currently and it seems to give a very good water repellent feature.  More so as you wash more with it.

Even confused the paint work on a 96 Corolla that's basically shot.  The remaining bits that have any hint of shine came up really nicely and bead the water.  Noting that I only use what ever is leftover in the bucket after washing the cars that are worth using it on.

Any suggestions on where we can wash/and wax our vehicles? Some of us don't have access to hose and outdoor area to wash and wax our cars.

Most cities have a commercial DIY washbays operating. I.e. Washworld. Otherwise you can use an automated carwash (some are touchless if you are worried about picking up scratches), or pay for a valet clean. Obviously all of these have their products they use so are not ideal if you you are picky with brand.

Waxing doesn't need water, and I normally do it in the garage. Simply rub on, rub off. So you could do that at home (once the cars is washed elsewhere) if you were trying to keep costs down.

There are also water-less cleaning products you could consider.

Is it a dickhead move to use the jets at WashWorld to wash your car and then use the bay to wax it with your own products? Will other patrons tell you to gtfo?

I've had this conversation with the guy works at my local washworld, he's ok with it if I'm early and there's no one else really there. There's always spare bays. I still spend a few bucks there. Just depends on your timing and where / who you deal with.

Ceramic coatings are good to ensure the colour of those black/grey plastic claddings stay as new over the ownership period...

Paint protection, best would be Paint Protection Films to protect against any natural wear and tear...else just save the ‘budget’ for a repaint after some years if you’re in a ‘sabotage’ prone area...

When we bought our Kia Seltos new, we looked into the ceramic coating initial costs and the 'yearly maintenance' coating costs afterwards that couple of detailers mentioned for the ceramic coating warranty to be applicable and it was going to be close to $2000 over 4 years.

I would still have to wash the car anyway. Did more research and instead we spent good money on rolls royce of the pressure washer/water blaster world that detailers use along with lances specifically useful for washing cars, decks, house exterior, roofs and driveways. I use Nerta chemicals. Main chemical does the car wash and then I apply their wax chemical afterwards. Car looks sparkly new and best part is that it is a completely touchless car wash setup and takes less than 10 minutes. Wax chemical lasts upto 3 weeks. Both chemicals are very cheap in NZ compared to rest of world considering they are made in Belgium. I guess they are trying to break into the NZ market atm. I buy them 25 litres at a time so comes out even cheaper than buying 5 litres. They even have a 200 litres drum option which commercial car washers use.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks for that...been looking for some good washing chemicals for some time.

What brand did you end up with for the "rolls royce of the pressure washer/water blaster"?

@Yoban Kranzle. Specifically Kranzle K2160TST. When we were building our home, we ensured that we had a 15A outdoor socket at front and back of the house on dedicated circuit to accommodate the more powerful pressure washers like this model as I did not want to deal with gas one's.

Dura-seal has latched onto the ceramic bandwagon ?

I've had a couple of used cars that have had dealer applied Dura-Seal and the stuff was almost useless.

You get better protection by applying a good quality wax.

Expensive ceramic coatings applied by "experts" is equally as big a waste of money.

The latest consumer applied ceramic waxes like Megiuars Hybrid ceramic wax can get as good results for much, much less.

It's all snake oil out there.

Caveat Emptor !
