richms: The tunnel is the worst bit with people seeming to think that 60 is correct like the waterview one gets.

Waterview tunnel is 80

Correct, like the johnsone hills tunnel. Still people go 60 in them and cause issues because others think the no lane change signs are regulatory so will not move.

But they are, aren’t they? There’s not just signs, there’s solid white lines marking the lanes - which are not to be crossed?

You are confusing NZ rules with Australia. We use yellow for where its not legal to cross to overtake here.

Reminds me of the people that refuse to use flush medians to pull into safely because its not legal in some other place to use them.

According to google, in NZ, you:

-must not cross yellow lines.

-should not cross white lines (without being very careful)

Did not know that about white lines - thought it meant ‘absolutely no changing lanes’. I googled it too and found:

Lane Change Warning: A solid white line between lanes traveling in the same direction indicates that lane changing is discouragedbecause it is unsafe or conditions are challenging (e.g., near motorway on-ramps, off-ramps, or lane endings). While there is no strict legal prohibition against crossing a single solid white line to change lanes in NZ, doing so is considered an "aggravating factor" if an accident occurs.

Transmission Gully has received the green light for a new 110 km/h speed limit for drivers travelling between Wellington and the Kāpiti Coast, says Transport Minister Chris Bishop.

I wonder how long roads will be maintained to the standard for 110. The new motorways in Auckland felt great when completed. Less than 10 years later they feel very average. Bearing in mind the average in Auckland is constantly dropping with the increase in traffic volume and weight, that's not great condition at all.
