IBC do most of that for you.  Their costs include GST, shipping, insurance etc.  

From memory the only extra costs in NZ are compliance, rego and WOF.  The process is EXTREMELY easy as they talk you through the whole thin and answer any questions.

I brought back my car after living in the uk for a year.

Cost 1500 pounds to ship, was a 2007 Ford Focus. (car yard found all sorts of things that they wanted fixed to buy back the car.. ie 1500 pounds worth so we said stuff you will ship car back)

Was surprisingly seemless, I rang AA in Christchurch who acted as import agent.

Spoke to a chap there and quoted by number of the frame which told you site/year of manufacture and whether is passed the various standards.

Left the car at transporter in London, then couple of months later, the AA in chch told me they had picked up the car from Littleton, did the WOF/Rego etc.

So I turned up paid the GST plus fee's and after 20 minutes drove it away. (still have it 4 years later)

Sorry, long overdue update:

I found a car I wanted and placed a bid via one of the companies that manages the purchase, shipping compliance etc... I haven't named them at this stage because I'm having some issues with thm, but they seem to have good overall feedback so I hope they sort things out.

I won a bid on the 9th(ish) March, but the company never got me a translation for the auction sheet, or answers to questions I placed on the number of smartkeys included and condition of the tyres. Their website clearly states they will get a translation, and answer questions, then give you a chance to withdraw or change your bid based on that info.

Unfortunately I bid at 10am on a Friday and the auction was Saturday afternoon/evening our time. I never heard back about my questions but got an email saying I had won the auction on Monday, along with an email apologising for not getting the translation or answers to the questions. (The car only has a single smartkey and rear tyres are badly worn - apparently unevenly)

After speaking to the company and getting a verbal statement that they would work with me to resolve the issues I paid the 80% deposit (~19k) and proceeded to hear nothing for ages. In the last few days I have emailed and phoned, and apparently the company believes that saying they have changed the process to make sure people who bid on Friday are now coverd is sufficient, and they intend to do nothing to assist me with the smartkey cost, or even costs for a pair of secondhand tyres.

They also have not sent a single update on the progress of the car purchase - it's been 3 weeks since the auction. The boss I spoke to today seemed surprised about that and he promised to get an update for me ASAP.

I still think I have found a car I will like, but so far I am very unimpressed with the company. They are a registered Motor Vehicle Trader, member of the MTA and member of the IMVIA and definitely not a fly by night scam - but I think they've dropped the ball on this quite badly and are refusing to own up to it (in writing or actions at least - Two people have admitted they made a mistake on the phone)

True story - my friend was about to start his Toyota Crown and got some warning in Big Red Japanese on the TV/GPS display. He makes photo and shows to bilingual friend. To his surprise what it was - simple notification about "burnt rear stop light" :)

I bought a temporary car (2006 Skyline 250GTS) and it spoke to me every day... I recorded it and asked a Japanese friend to translate.

"Good Morning! It is Tuesday the 31st of March, Please be careful not to drink and drive!"

I even found a menu in the controls on the head unit to disable the date and drink drive audio welcome! (I used Google translate to read the screens. VERY helpful)

How come all their cars in stock seems to be high kms, damaged\tired ? also seems to be highly limited.

I asked about a 2009+ Nissan Fuga 370GT and they said nothing available, yet JCAbid has slews of pristine examples for such cars.

I don't buy ibc inventory/stock. I use their auction service.

By nature stock in hand costs more.
