it would have gathered a lot of speed by the time it got to the octagon! (about 700-800m fr Moana pool by my estimate) ... or he must have used the cars on the side to slow him down?

joker97:
lxsw20: It's pretty rare in Dunedin you could use chains on the paved roads. Usually the issue is ice, not snow.

yes Dunedin, it ices up around 1-2x a year. that's when idiots in Subarus and SUVs think they're invincible and cause damage to others!

that day i stopped putting the chains and just turned around and drove home! literally as soon as my mate walked across the road after saying hello, this crazy subaru came flying past and hit 3 cars before it was stopped by the kerb and a RAV4 (parked)

so i still have not used chains till today! but I did sell the SUV :) and got a Subaru lol. only to find the manual says don't use chains - then put my hand round the wheel and found out why

I had my Pajero up and down the Baldwin St in snow few years back. It was crazy awesome!

joker97: i just went to aliexpress and ordered 4 socks. looks like they're nowhere near as good as chains but on the internet i get 4 for less than half the price of 2 if bought local!

Let us know how you find them

I haven't used aliexpress before. Are you fairly sure you will get genuine "autosocks", or does that site have issues with counterfeits?

it won't be genuine autosocks brand with the registered trademark. you have have to make sure the stuff they sell has the similar quality. in china, they like to pay someone at a factory and get a copy of the blueprints. then they open another factory next door and make a similar product. which to you and i are called K-mart, TheWarehouse, Dick Smith etc. as you cannot copyright a shirts and pants really. trouble starts if you try to buy A-phones (doesn't work properly) and Ariras shoes (makes you look quite silly!).

snow socks, well who cares what brand they are.

I wouldn't care what brand they are, But would want to ensure that they hadn't swamped out the "special high friction textile" with something cheaper of similar appearance.

it shouldn't. you can put on your woolly socks on the tyre and it will still work.

but in any case there is a mediation where you can complain and get your money back.
