When my wife was pregnant we got a car suitable for a baby. Nissan Qashqui, which is a car that looks a bit like an SUV. Makes things a lot easier than trying to stuff a lot of things into a small car.

It is slightly more difficult, but that's why we got a midsized car and kept the Corolla for commuting. We don't often go into the city in that car. If we have to in future it'd be ok, it's smaller than a full SUV.
Street size isn't an issue, we live in the southern suburbs, not the awful damp cramped southern suburbs.

The only reason it's not damp there is because the constant wind is blowing the dampness away! Newtown and such is pretty awful. Not enough parking, narrow roads, etc. There will be some better areas, the newer ones, but north Wellington is more spacious and seems generally drier.
