I dont see using data or needing me to preload maps as a disadvantage for google maps. I see stale maps and no data as a disadvantage for legacy style GPS devices. data is cheap so having it turned off when you are burning thru $15-20 an hour of fuel is a silly decision to make IMO.

Yeah it's always a weird updgrade. We normally drive mid size sedans, and our South Island trips are just over 1000km each. In a normal car, over five days, I'll fill up once and then again just before the airport. In a Holden Captiva, I filled up twice on day two, (first tank was a top up), filled up on day three, and another decent fill on day five. It's so thirsty. And slow. Unlike when you get a Toyota Highlander which is probably just as thirsty but it is also ridiculously powerful so at least you know where the fuel is going.

I drove a Ford Escape instead of the Rav4 (4WD for winter) last week, it was really enjoyable actually. Went pretty well, a nice size, pretty easy to park and for some reason I really liked the drivers seat.

They don't call them Craptiva for nothing. I nearly bought one some years back, glad I dodged that bullet.

Who are Holden? They were first and foremost aussie-built Commodores, but are no longer and have little of value to offer now. I give the brand 10-years at best.
