Looking at all the FUD about hydrogen on the net - the loss of energy, inefficiencies etc, what I dont see being said is that electrical production from the sun and hydro has an inexhaustible (in human years) supply and is clean. Who cares about inefficiencies if the initial product is darn near free.

A lot of EV owners have grown used to charging their cars at home and not having to rely on "petrol stations" for supply. They also have the option of making their own power.

This is one of the main reasons EV-interested persons diss hydrogen cars. It just takes them back to relying on someone else who is controlling availability and pricing. "NO thanks" is the usual answer to that.

I really like just being able to plug the car in in the car port for an hour or two to restore the 20km (1 hour) or 40km (2 hours) (for about 45-90 cents of power at 15c / kWh) I used on the last outing. This isn't a chore or a pain....it's actually a LOT better than filling up at a petrol station once you get used to it.

Hydrogen includes a loss of energy autonomy and price vulnerability that EVs don't face. If I don't like the price my power company charges, I can put panels on my roof and a couple of batteries in the shed....and make / store my own power. Safely. I might be able to make my own hydrogen at home.....but I'd need to store it at 730bars....and keep it super cold. Those installations run at about $2 million each......and that creation and storage infrastructure is another cost factor in Hydrogen that EVs just dont' have.

This is pretty neat. Do you have a link? 300km is pretty much the most I need if I can rapid charge it safely.

Here's a URL to the post in NZ EV Owners by Carl Barlev, (part?) owner of BlueCars, on September 15th. Join that group if you haven't already.
