Just to explain the use of phones on the forecourt thing - it's not because the phone itself might cause an explosion if you're using it, more that you're more likely to drop it if you're using it. When dropped, having the battery pop out and/or spark IS more likely, and a potential hazard.

As a motorbike rider I guess I can't use this as I can't remain inside my car while paying. Was really looking forward to not having to take off helmet etc to go inside and pay. I used to only go to Z so I could pay at the pump until I found out how much more my bike prefers 98 fuel....all the Z stations around me only have 95, not sure if this is a nation wide thing or not?
"while inside your stationery vehicle" So I think if you are enclosed by your motorbike windscreen, the rear of your seat and under the motorbike roof - AKA helmet; then I'd deem you inside of your vehicle :)

Surely dropping a set of keys is more likely to cause sparks than dropping a piece of plastic?

Not with the size of the battery in a phone - Galaxy Note7's don't even need to be dropped ;-)

Keys are brass, I think. In which case they won't spark.
My phone has the battery sealed inside, so it can't just pop out. I suppose that if I dropped it hard enough, the case and battery could fracture and cause a fire.
Just wondering what everyone's experience is like now this has been effect for nearly a year?
My main concern in using the app is the hold that others were talking about on your credit/debit card. When I fill up I usually just use the fill option, never an amount.
Was using Z stations but realised flybuys points aren't really a drawcard now and happy to switch to the aa rewards as we shop at countdown so can get discount off fuel that way I think??

Personally I don't have a problem with the hold thing.
But I really am enjoying the experience of the BPMe app. I haven't used it much, but each time I do, it's been seamless. Even better that I can easily use my AA smart fuel discounts.
Not having to go inside is fantastic. Though it does take a little time to get used to - driving in then just driving off.
While I know this is about BPMe, I am quite surprised that Z went down the route they did.. It seems like an over complicated way of doing it. Requiring new cameras for each lane at each station. I don't know if they do holds, I assume they do.
My experiences with BP Me have been as follows:
- One attempt in Queenstown failed because I started the app and selected a pump before I realised that the particular pump had high flow diesel which I understand is only suitable for trucks and buses. When I selected 'cancel' the app reported an error, so I just abandoned the pump and it didn't appear to charge me anything.
- One attempt in Invercargill failed as soon as I selected the pump. The app just threw a vague error message.
- Three other attempts worked fine - two in Levin and one in Richmond.
I would say it's like most iPhone apps - great when it works but generally unreliable.
alasta:[snip] before I realised that the particular pump had high flow diesel which I understand is only suitable for trucks and buses.
Should be fine on most cars - just don't pull the trigger all the way in and it won't flow as fast.

I use the BPMe app every fill since it went live (won't actually fill completely, only up to $125) and it works every time. I never have had a charge hold put on my card as such - being AMEX I don't know if that makes and difference. I check my CC transactions online daily and the day I fill it shows as a pending transaction, next day it's on the statement much like every other transactions on my card.
Have had a few strange looks, just getting back in the car and driving off though.
