NZTA website says now it'll be back up by midnight for those looking for RUCs.

I have a new hobby now. As I walk along the city streets, I peer at any car which is a EV or PHEV to see if it has the RUC sticker :-)
I certainly see quite a few with no stickers, yet.
heavenlywild:If it's falling over already it's only going to get worse over the course of this week as the thick end of 100,000 EVs & PHEVs get their RUCs.

My fall back plan is to join the queue at the local Post Shop by Friday if the site isn't functioning by then but that might be a bit of a chore too if the website issue is anything to go by.

NZTA RUCs are back for those looking to spend some money.
I'm going to... Wait :)

Fully depends if they can do anything more than just use the site/system themselves then print the docket locally.
I think you guys might be over estimating the blip that EV's will cause the RUC system compared to the massive volume of heavy vehicle purchases that occur every day. There is a maintenance window every single weekend, that is sometimes extended depending on what's in the release window.
This may well be an unexpected outage, but I'd be pretty surprised if it was volume related.
FYI the site is working again, just got my RUC paid for.

This rukus from EV and PHEV owners about the issue with the online RUC purchases insinuating it's all to do with the wave of RUC purchases from EV owners shows to me how totally wrapped up EV owners are in their world.
Have a look around and take note of how many vehicles there are on our roads that require RUCs and then think about how that number compares to EV numbers.
A lot of cars, SUVs etc are diesel and pretty well any thing bigger than a Ute is a diesel.

Yes but i doubt there are 35,000 (Guess of how many waited till the last minute) regular diesel vehicles trying to get RUC in a week. (would be 1.8 million on the roads)
Most heavy vehicles would use something like E-Road and hub odometers. So that rules them out.
EV's in this last week have probably doubled or tripled the load on the system.

Um. What? Do you have any experience in the heavy vehicle fleet world for the assumptions you're making here?
To use one example: Fire and Emergency has one of the largest diesel fleets in the country. There's no EROAD or similar. It's simple enough, the operators of the vehicles (drivers) monitor their RUC and notify admin staff to order RUC when it's needed. There's nothing complicated here, a HUBO just means they are checking their RUC against a number on the wheel instead of the dash.
We use EROAD on our (car) fleet at work but it has nothing to do with RUC management.

This is what my wife told me, who works for a transport company.
Quick Google shows it can be managed electronically
"Our electronic system takes the stress out of buying and managing RUC. Purchase your RUC licences where and when you need them, through our NZ Transport Agency-approved, secure, bank-grade payment system."
For those that buy through some 3rd party device, the eventual transaction still goes through the NZTA RUC system, it's not like they can magic a RUC licence out of thin air! Unless you are in the industry I very much doubt you'd have an accurate idea of the sheer volume and complexity of distance licences, time licences, overweight permits blah blah. Heavy vehicle operators do not buy further ahead than they have to, that would be money tied up needlessly.

But doesn't go through the front end website, which is what's crashing.
