jonathan18: Umm, maybe leaving it until 29 hours before D-day to buy RUCs for both our cars was a dumb idea! Spinning wheel of death on the website at moment; will try again later tonight and, if no luck then, first thing tomorrow.

I continued to have trouble all the additional times I attempted last night, and again early this morning (before 6, on both iPad and laptop) - it either got stuck on the payment screen, or the WK website threw up various errors (including sometimes telling me I had to call them, or that I couldn't buy RUCs for a specific vehicle).

But tried again about 8sh (on laptop) and it went through without issue.

So as long as you buy today, even if you don't get the label for a week, that should be legally OK?

Or you must have bought and have your label showing from tomorrow?

If you purchase it online you can download a temporary PDF that you can print and leave in your car until the label arrives.

The email will have a printable label valid for a week. My 22 May purchase has not yet arrived in the post and the printable label won't be valid tomorrow. I'm not too worried as I'm sure I would be able to show the printable label past the 7 days as proof.

Still dont know why they have to post you a label if you can get a pdf version. Perhaps they are concerned about longevity and readability with people printing on crap inkjets using plain paper or something.

There's probably some legislative requirement which could require Parliament to change it. Someone would need to review the appropriate acts to confirm, but it's probably not worth our effort.

I'm guessing this a big part of it...

The commercial ones are clearly printed with UV stable ink, - pretty such most consumer ink/laser printing don't have the same level of UV resistance

A problem that wouldn't even exist if we do away with the need for having labels in the first place.

Got my RUC without issue online. I wish the passport renewal process was as fast 😜

Did mine last night. Got a overloaded type error the first time, but on refreshing I was able to make the payment.

It arrived in the post today and it's now in the window of my car, to be forgotten about for a year probably.

I’m wondering if it’s okay for me to smuggly sit here reading posts from people that have left things to the last minute, that are now angsting over their labels, etc. Having got my label a month ago, the following credit card ad springs to mind,

500km* of RUCs $38, peace of mind priceless.

*How many I’ve used, not how many I bought.

You're welcome to be smug, but I'm fine with my decision to wait until yesterday!

In the end it wasn't that big a hassle - I've certainly put in more effort to save a few $$ before... (And, between two cars, we'd have chalked up way more than 500km this past month!)

Doing it last minute was no stress and took a minute.
