cruxis:

As I read it a crime is not committed until the EV is used on a public road, without a RUC. So yeah police have to wait outside the house and get them as leave I suppose.

ah, ok then

Presumably they'll get pinged if they are parked on the street (assuming the police can run the plate and check kms)

Parking wardens won't be able to check kms though, only that you have a RUC certificate displayed.

Which, when many thousands of vehicles haven't had RUC paid for, will be without an extra label on their windscreen that's obvious to check by anyone.

That's assuming they're going to know they're electric? I saw a Toyota Highlander with an EV sticker the other day. And two exhausts and presumably a 3500cc V6 under the bonnet!

Sister vehicle to the Hilux parked in a charging bay at the Z Turangi who, when I said wow, that's the first electric Hilux I've ever seen, he replied 'yeah it's a hybrid'.

you know the Hybrid Hilux is a mild hybrid with only about 1kWh (i made it up from other car mild hybrid system, Toyota does not publish their battery capacity) battery with a torque assist motor that cannot drive the car by itself

Yes and more importantly it hasn't been released yet anyway. It's coming later this year IIRC. He was being a dick in response to being called out as being a dick. But he jumped in the car and drove away before I could add that even the non-existent hybrid Hiluxes only get to park there if they are actually charging.

Hmmm....there's the dick who parks in a charging park when he doesn't have a chargeable vehicle, and then there's the guy that feels the need to tell the dick something he already knows.....

Nono, there are two dicks who feel the need to tell the dick something he already knows. I was the second dick to tell the dick he was being a dick. The dick in the BYD next to me had already told him he was a dick before I arrived.

Was his name Richard?

That would be the cherry on top.

Nah, it was probably Trevor or Bruce.

Seriously though, it pays not to get confrontational with people like this. These days you never know who is on drugs and/or carrying a weapon.

Yeah, you're right. It was just so annoying ... not sure if you've been there but there is a massive open concrete area, and that's just the Z. It's part of an even bigger area of shops with probably a hundred carparks, most of which were unoccupied at the time. It's not like he had nowhere else to park except in that exact spot.
