heylinb4nz: "Fatigue wasn't as much of an issue when drivers had to manhandle older cars around twisty roads."

Totally agree, ive driven to Wellington from Hamilton in a modified 1990 MR2 GT. 5 hours straight driving..didnt even feel tired.

YET Brand new Hybrid Toyota Camry from Hamilton to Auckland for work (measley 1hr drive) always used to nod off...way to quiet..way to comfy...no road feel...just a giant sleep cocoon travelling at 100 kmh.  SOLUTION.

New WOF Standards - minimum kw per kg rating - cars must be fitted with Supercharger or Turbocharger with minimum boost levels - Exhausts must be louder than 89DB - Coilover suspension, strut braces and nolathane bushings mandatory - Tyres must cost > $250 each - Cars must be no higher than 40mm from ground - Automatic \ CVT transmissions illegal

Yeah, that doesn't work for me.  My road legal rally car needs more ground clearance than that for gravel rallies.  tongue-out
The other bits I'm happy with though.  cool

"holiday road toll now double last year's"

maybe they should try zero tolerance on alcohol / drugs / teens rather than speed

they blame the higher road toll on lower petrol prices, really, really? there is nothing else they can blame the crashes on? most of the crashes seem to be from inattention/distracted drivers

Where do they blame it on this?  I can find no article backing up your statement.

Police need to abandon this experiment and focus on bad drivers during the holiday return peak, says Ron Mark, New Zealand First's police spokesman.
"This experiment of zero tolerance has failed. It has precious police resources sucked up making good drivers feel like criminals instead of focusing on those driving too fast, too slowly or too badly."
The policy is making safe drivers fearful of police.
"People are saying to me that instead of driving to the conditions, their eyes are darting from the speedo to road and back again and that every time they see a police car, they instinctively brake despite being well within the speed limit."

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

I am so glad all my cars have a 6kph Speedo error. Otherwise I will definitely crash by looKing at Speedo instead of road

networkn: If you think it's about saving lives with a tolerance of 1KM/h you aren't living in reality.

If YOU think that the Police are going to issue tickets within a tolerance of 1KM/h over the maximum speed limit, YOU AREN'T LIVING IN REALITY!
