I remember calling Winger Subaru one for a quote to do the cambelts on my old GT Legacy. It was close to $3000.

I have a 2011 Touring for sale if anyone is interested! :)

Probably out of my price range, sadly!

Why are you selling?

Edit ok maybe not today but I've seen them for under 20k

I came this close -> to buying a second-hand 2003 S8 when I was living in Dubai - wanted one ever since the movie Ronin.

In the end I plumped for the ubiquitous 4x4 instead. Still regret it.

HAHA... I can't watch Ronin without wanting an E34 M5!

In fact, That's probably one car I'd sell my 740 for.

Plenty of non M 5 series in Ronin. Have a look at the gauges and the steering wheel next time you watch it.

OT and fun fact. Listening to the director's commentary on that movie indicates they had both LHD and RDH models in the chase sequence. They used the RHD models for when they wanted the actors to be in the LH driving seat in frame (using a fake steering wheel) but the stunt driver to be driving from the right hand side. No special effects in that movie - all real. That would explain perhaps why not all the cars were M5's.

blakamin: I'm totally biased... get a 540i!
There's NOTHING like the intake roar of the V8 when you nail it... and watch the tacho hit 6500 in a heartbeat (and the traction control light up on a dry road at 60) innocent

In usual BMW style, the "factory kilowatts" was basically a minimum... There's been many a new V8 SS (and one R8) commodore that's been embarrassed by my 20 year old 7 series (in a closed environment aka drag strip).

+1 to that I guess. I recently acquired a 1994 E34 540i with 45K on the clock so pretty young really. I haven't driven it crazily but I did notice when I floored it, the performance was pretty peppy but more alarming was, the fuel economy meter disappearing off the gauge to the right!  With a lead foot this is going to be an expensive car to run.

Hahaha... all BMWs do that.. I had a 520 e34 that did it too. I ignore and go by the OBC.

I do to, as soon as I touch the pedal the 4.8l v8 springs to life and the gauge sticks to 5!  Currently, with my partners heavy right foot, is sitting around 16l/100km!!

16? That's normal for a V8. Unless you have an RS6 ... apparently under 10 for that monster of a car.

Just getting a handle on the OBC. Is that the fuel economy display rather than the gauge?

I did notice one thing. The car doesn't seem to want to get out of 2nd gear until hit 50 which means it seems to be revving a bit higher than required.

A local dealer told me (I have no idea if it's right or wrong) the car "learn" your driving mode and adjust gear changes accordingly. That seems pretty sophisticated for a 20 year old car.

So I don't know about the older models but mine remembers and has learnt both our driving styles and activates it when we use the memory buttons on the seat to set the car to either myself or my partner.  If I get in and use the remote to set the seat it doesn't remember to change mirrors or gearbox and I end up getting annoyed at her driving setup... Always holds higher revs when she has been in it, where as mine general changes around 1500 and drives around 1200.

The economy is both on mine, gauge below the speedo and in the middle of the dials the screen will show a series of information including the fuel economy which is more accurate.

The gauge is an instant reaction thing I'm sure BMW put there to fill in cluster space... the OBC tells it like it is... Mine is currently on 12.6ltrs/100kms. I daily it to work 40kms eacxh way through the adelaide hills, have a lead foot and my car is a fair bit heavier than yours (1995 7 series) ... innocent
What year is yours?
It should have the same auto as mine, and it is adaptive. Mine is amazing, it's like it knows the roads and when to change down. Sport mode is even more fun!

I only turned it on and for the brief driving I did (all city/suburb) it got down to 20. Hope it goes lower. Presumably it's a moving average?

Mine is a 1994.
