rugrat: It takes me 20 seconds to open application and enter details.
I save about $3 each time.
That works out to about $54 an for each hour of my time, if I'm crazy for doing that then I must be even crazier for going to work which pays way less.
Also I have applic set up so that it doesn't ask for password, sometimes it just finding out how things work.
I use the standard AA discount and don't spend time chasing points in shops.
The only time I see the GPS on phone showing iOS is when running applic, so it's not always letting BP know where I am.
I appreciate some people don't care about getting cheaper prices, but petrol here is expensive enough already and in Christchurch. before discount all prices are the same, so pointless here finding best full price one.
Some people don't care about paying money they don't have to pay, good on them.
Wow, 20 seconds top to enter details on phone to much hassle.
It obviously works for you. If I had the same experience I'd be using it too.
I'd suggest 20 seconds to have the app opened and the data entered isn't the norm. Some people would take way way longer than that just to get hold of the phone, let alone opening the app. Most iPhone users I see take nearly 20 seconds to get the phone unlocked from the time they reach for the phone till it's ready to use.
So far as tracking goes, It's certainly an over statement to say it's tracking you every minute of the day but every time it's used your location is potentially logged which to some people equates to being tracked all the time since it's everytime the app is used.
I agree petrol is expensive enough, but I don't go driving around to find the best price.
These sorts of apps by default discourage or reduce interaction with other people which in a way is sad. I still get my discounts and the marginally extra time needed to walk inside and pay doesn't worry me.
One area of benefit I see is for those people who track their fuel usage/spend for business or personal reasons as I'm guessing the app will give the details by default so that to some extent kills two birds with one stone.

blakamin: I don't care what anyone else does, I'm just saying I want to swipe my phone at the pump and be on my way.

For a person who has never used the app, you have a brilliant insight as to how it works. 20 seconds is the norm (I use the app all the time).
Your comment that most IPhone users take nearly 20 seconds to unlock the phone is ridiculous. People can run 200m in less than 20 seconds.
19.9 to be exact
Blinkey, if you're going to quote me please get it right, I said most iPhone owners that I see, now that may or may not be the norm among all iPhone users.
You're right I never used the app but I've used plenty of ther apps and see people using their phones on a daily basis. I still find it incredible that the norm is only 20 seconds from the time you pull up beside the pump till you have the data entered in the app. I have visions of a quick draw pistol draw.
Please note I wasn't saying the unlock process took 20 seconds but that from the time someone decided they needed to use their phone, the time taken to access the phone (get out of pocket, phone holder, handbag etc) and unlock it would likely take around 20 seconds. I often see phone calls go to voice mail while people are accessing and unlocking their phone.

Lol, we're talking about an app, not fuel markets. Nobody said I had to be helpful.
Get over it.
My biggest beef with the app is now the price is hidden.
Market operates on transparency of data, Australia got it right, 4c maximum for fuel discount.
NZ petrol retailer market is now a total mess. Supermarket dockets, SmartFuel app, BPMe integration (they can offer their own discount if they want one day), ARFAI fuel cards etc, all hiding real prices. GasSpy helped somewhat but it really needs a better confidence index etc.
Just today I got an email saying BPMe is giving out 2 lots of 13c off per litre, these fuel discounts are throwing off the regulator's effort in monitoring fuel prices and margins.
The app itself is technically fine, it works except once fueling stopped half way for no reason so I couldn't get my points (not up to $40) for that amount of fuel.
I agree with the aussie somewhat, it is a total waste of everyone effort, gov should just cap the discount and let the retailers know to stop muddling the water and compete on services/price. But I guess it's too late by now, all the efforts are thrown in, countless hours of IT integration spent, now they really need to earn them all back with profit and interest...*sigh* this is why we can't have cheap fuel.
NZ have one of the highest pretax fuel cost in OECD, these complex IT integration and marketing ploys don't help it at all.

As an aside, do they get an immediate alert in the store that you have paid, or has anyone had someone run out after you thinking you are leaving without paying?
It shows on their screen that the pump is in use on BPMe, so no running out the shop after you :) Although occasionally you get an attendant on the forecourt who does the fill for you, so that may feel stranger when you drive off, cause they may not know its on BPMe.

That coffee-pre-order is a fantastic feature. Sub-5 minute stops. And Wild Bean coffee is OK.

yeh they just need to tell the pump to switch on the red led you see lit when pre paying 'the old way'. This way the attendants can see.
As for the other folk here counting 20s here, 20s there.... its all symantics when comparing the time taken to walk inside, line up (if que) and then deal with the 20sec transaction then walk back to car.

If I'm having a coffee, I want to sit down and enjoy it, not rush in out, and not have it in a paper cup with a horrible plastic lid.
