Seems to be a thing now, but has anyone tried it here?

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/06/psa-upgrade-three-years-of-xbox-live-to-game-pass-ultimate-for-just-1/

So if 3 x $90 12 month Xbox Live cards = $270 or $7.50 a month

RRP for game pass is $20 a month x 3 years = $720

Not a bad deal if it works

This makes me think!

What you might not realize is you can upgrade up to three years of a current Xbox Live gold subscription to the new, more expensive plan for $1 as part of a launch promotion from Microsoft.

Unfortunatley I did not see this until after I subbed for $1.

It looks like you can cancel, then top up to 3 years gold, then pay the normal $19.95 and convert all of your term to game pass. Just got for the original $1.

I know about 6 people personally who have done this, it's legit.

It's also a fantastic deal.

Sweet, thanks for the confirm folks. I don't have Gold at the moment, but this kinda makes it worth signing up

No, but I'd get on it before they stop it, it's a KILLER deal. Maybe the best one I've ever seen in gaming circles.

I am unsure what MS get out of this really, but not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I bought the 3 x 12 months Xbox Live Gold from cdkeys.com. The subscription was for $60 each but it only works on Brazil Xbox website which is why it is cheap. I just used tunnelbear VPN which is free, connected to Brazil server, redeemed all 3 x 12 months codes on my usual Microsoft account which still signs into the Brazil Xbox website ok and had 3 years in total added. My current subscription had expired. Jumped into NZ Xbox website afterwards and redeemed the $1 gamepass subscription and it's valid until June 2022 now with the Ultimate subscription.

I got as far as redeeming 2 years worth of Gold, but then because they threw in a free month of gold if you had auto recurring payments on, I can't redeem the final year because there is a hard limit of 3 years.

Because of 1 goddamn month that I really don't frickin care if I lose.

Trying to contact Xbox support now to see if they can ram it through, but so. frickin. annoyed.

EDIT: No, they can't. Thanks a lot Microsoft.

Thanks for that. I just brought 2 12 months subs for $60 each. I then used the getflix vpn and chrome translate to redeem them on the Brazil site, clicking auto renew each time so I actually received 26 months of xbox live gold for $120NZD.

I think (but am not 100% sure) that the 1$ then extended it another month, therefore, 27 months of xbox gamepass for $121NZD (+ the 3 months I had remaining). Yeah, that's not too bad.

I had this, just wait until the subscription drops below three years, then you can add the extra year subscription.

Without appearing stupid about this, can someone explain clearly what this all means?

I have an xbox, I am currently rolling month to month with xbox live so I can network game the likes of ghost recon wildlands with my brother overseas.

What does this deal all mean?

Xbox game pass is like Netflix of video games. There are 3 different subscriptions. One that covers Xbox console only which is $13/month which has over 300 games IIRC and growing including any latest XBOX game studio games that will be added on day one like Halo, Forza etc and there are number of third party developers on board as well who have released their games. Second subscription is Xbox games pass for PC which was only announced last week and costs $7/month and this is the same thing as above but for PC games with all XBOX game studio games and whatever PC developers on board have released their game. The third subscription is the Ultimate subscription which included Xbox games pass for both console and PC and also included the Xbox live gold subscription in the monthly cost which is $20/month.

However with E3 only last week, Microsoft is running one hell of a promo where you can get Xbox game pass ultimate subscription for $1 for the first month. What’s exciting is that you can max stack up your Xbox live gold subscription first for 3 years. Once you do that then purchase the game pass subscription for $1 before they end this deal which could be anytime. They will automatically convert your 3 years of XBOX live gold subscription to the ultimate subscription till end of your gold subscription expiry which will be in June 2022 sometime. So for $1 paid you just gained access to whole bunch of free games that you have access to play until June 2022.

Do whatever you want to do man.
