Bought mine yesterday for $129.00 so I just missed the bargain. Grab yours for $99

At the moment I wouldn't pay $20 for one... Mine requires a reboot every day or else it will reboot after playing choppy for seconds/maybe a minute... It might even be more than daily but as I only use it in the evening I basically have to reboot it every time I want to watch something. MANY people are reporting the same thing on the current sw version and there's no good way to downgrade either.

As far as I can see there's no point getting one at the moment.

Cheers - N

I read the reviews and most have been good, I also saw some of the comments on here about the device but I put that down to possibly faulty hardware. If mine plays up like that I will be returning it.

I need another one of these, they are great little units for their price.

For streaming I notice virtually zero difference in operation between it and the nvidia shield in the lounge.

Thanks for sharing

Well I must be extremely lucky. I have both the original MiBox 3 purchased a few years ago and the newer MiBox S purchased about a year ago and both still perform perfectly with absolutely none of the issues repeatedly expounded on the internet. The MiBox S is still OTA updated regularly with the last update just yesterday. It is in daily use in our motorhome as a media Player, Freeview TV viewing, YouTube and full HD Netflix box.
Perfect and faultless performance with never a single hiccup for us - ever.

Version 9 firmware has been a debacle. Version 8 is good and stable, I won't be updating any time soon

Version 9 is still in beta from what I have read, why would anybody want to go from a stable release to a beta?

Who says it is a still in beta?
The latest official OTA update yesterday from Xiaomi is Android 9 build 2604. Android 9 beta or not is still faultless for me and has been for last few months since the first release of 9. Mind you so was v8.

Some people sure have some bad luck.

That's a pretty cool looking little box

I have alot of MKV's/mp4/avi/mp3 and flacs on a qnap NAS - does this device have the ability to stream those types of files ok or would it be better to simply put them on a USB HDD?

The latest stable version of Android TV is v10 released in Dec 2019 . . . so I wouldn't think that version 9 is still in beta ;-)

looking at this article

Android TV 9 build 2604 appears to be the first version 9 stable release for Mi Box S (released April 2020), so if you're having issues with your box then it is probably worth getting the latest update

How does Plex work with this these days? Thinking of suggesting this for a family memeber to repalce their Apple TV 3rd gen, but I'm seeing a few forum posts saying the latest plex update isn't working very well on it.

It's sweet on mine on Android 8. I'd take a good look at the fire stick 4k as well - IMO it's a better performing device.

If they are coming from Apple TV 3 then a new Apple TV is probably the easiest experience if they can cope with the new remote. The old apple tv remote works on the new one as well.

That sucks - but I can only guess your's is borked / dodgy firmware - as mine has been stable for years now.

What SW version are you on? I ask as I checked mine and its Version 8.0.0 and I don't see any further updates being available when I do a check for updates.

Ahem - I just noted that the version S is indeed having issues (mine is the older version) - albeit a new bug fix update is apparently being rolled out at the moment - so it might be worthwhile trying to update again?

Yes the newer apple tv is very nice but they are not an applecentric household and the newer apple tv is cost prohibitive. The fire tv stick looks solid too, but it seems like you can't order anything from Amazon outside the USA now, have I got that right?

Just read an email today (TechCrunch or similar) that Amazon have employed 75,000 extra people so they can get more orders dispatched including non-essentials.
