Works fine. You can also sideload the Freeview app.

Thanks; I've been looking for one at a decent price for the last few weeks.

In the past I have had some minor issues with the parallel imported Chromecast Audios that 1Day sold (WiFi band related, IIRC), but they've generally been fine.

FWIW...

Amazon Fire TV stick 4k Max is on special at NL $55 (maybe other places too).

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/amazon-fire-tv-stick-4k-max/N215150.html

IMHO it is superior to the CCwGTV.

I have one of each.

The CCwGTV lacks some of the 'overseas' apps that I want. Can't sideload them because they just dont exist. Same services have apps for the Fire TV.

Its easier to install apps from 'overseas' markets on the Fire TV without sideloading. ie legit apps from Amazon store.

The CCwGTV seems to have an awful space management issue. The free space seems to dwindle rapidly, even if you clear the cache regularly. My AFTV stick has more apps and still has much more free space.

The AFTV stick seems more responsive in its menus etc and 'feels' faster.

TVNZ/Three Now and kodi all work fine on it. Don't think the 'Freeview' app will work though.

EDIT: AFTV Doesnt support Chromecast out of the box. It does support Miracast well (just tested this from my Samsung Tablet (smart View on Samsung)) and it worked well. I realise that Miracast is not the same as Chromecast. But as I have all the apps I need on the AFTV stick I dont have a need to cast anyway.

Got to agree - I have the old gen 1 fire cube and will now replace it with a fire stick. Amazon are years ahead of google when it comes to media players, I find it just works. Google TV is still very finicky and cant even do simple commands.

What I would miss of the stick though it the built in echo and IR Blaster, but the cube is region locked so cant get apps like TVNZ etc.

YMMV, to use another FLA, as it does depend on one's particular needs and use case.

I'm buying this to replace an Amazon Fire 4K thing, which we now never use as it simply doesn't provide the solution to what's lacking on this TV - seamless integration with (in, our case, Android) phones, in particular casting. Casting from apps like YT is so easy with a Chromecast - no mucking about with screen mirroring etc. We also have a significant number of GH devices, so they just work together well.

Overall, I've had no problems with the capacity of our existing GCCwGTV and it's running all the apps we need; it also runs Kodi way better than the TV.

Not knocking Fire TVs - they're certainly great value products that can work for many people, just not all...

I happen to know someone who's selling a 3rd gen pendant style one, if you're interested! Got a games controller that'll also not be needed..

I ordered one of these this week. Never had one before so hoping it works with my 2010 Samsung Smart TV - do they connect via HDMI? How hard are they to setup?

A friend used to have an Amazon Fire stick thing and I recall he could get tonnes of streaming channels, but he recommended this one to me as he said it was a lot better than the Amazon device.

Plugs into HDMI. Easy to set up.

CCGTV is a step behind. FireStick has AV1. No difference for average user. I have both. Imo the Google remote is nicer to use too. I expect CCGTV will have a longer update life.

I still have an original Chromecast. Ten years old I think and OS updates only stopped last year.
