I'm assuming this was from DELL? I'm really interested in their 32" 4K monitor but the 55 day delivery is putting me off.

yip, from dell nz. I got 4 of their monitors in the last 12mnths, u3419w, u2720q, s3221qs, and s2721qs, 1st one pre covid took a week to arrive, 2nd one during lockdown took a few days, but these last two, 2months... before i clicked order it said eta 45days, but after i ordered it shows 2 months, grrr

Yikes that's put me off. But thanks for sharing

I'm a big fan of USB-C monitors

What are these?

Is there just one usb c cable connecting it, instead of hdmi/display port etc?

Assume you'd need a modern graphics card to achieve that?

Most Laptops with USB-C can use the cable to act as the charger (if monitor supports PD), screen, and then you can connect mouse and keyboard to the montior so a single cable does it all which is a great solution for connectivity.

Usb-c monitors can transfer video, audio, data, and power through one cable. Its best suited to usbc laptop users can plug in one cable and be up and running like a desktop. One thing to be aware of which many dont realise is that a 4k 60hz signal will saturate most of the bandwidth, so if using a 4k monitor as a usb hub, usb speeds will be usb2.0, to get usb3.0 speeds you either need to lower the resolution or refresh rate.

Also USB-C cables are super confusing and most would only deliver power and not data/signal.

mouse an keyboard will be fine with 4k display, just don't exepct great file transfer speeds if connecting a USB drive, connect that to the spare USB ports freed up by the USB-C cable

Side conversation here, but I really don't mind two cables to a monitor for desktop use, one dedicated for video and usb for hub outlets.
That said, for laptop use this ability sounds cool, so thanks for the info.

Pricing error. The ChoiceCheapies thread is brimming with saltiness at JB Hifi for not giving everyone a half price Surface Pro 😅

for those wondering about 32" 4K ... my eyes really struggled with a monitor that size that close. it gets really sore after a few mins. sold it and stuck with a 27" 1440p.

also the 4K resolution at 32" sitting that close - some words were too small if they did not scale with windows - and i had to max out the windows scaling.

so if you have my eyes and you're not a video or photo editing guru ... 27" 1440p - perfect. can't see any pixels, don't need microscope to read words.

I'm exactly the same boat. I upgraded to a 32" 4k from a 27" 4k.

The 27" was much manageable, I didn't need to turn my head to look on the other side of the screen.

I much prefer the 27" than the 32"

The 32" was so amazingly tempting but just didn't work for me, just can't use the real estate and the resolution was too high for windows! Can't believe I am saying that.

I think I will die on a 27" with 4K - in theory windows will scale, and when it works it's amazing.

But to my horror a large number of programs I use just won't scale. And you have words that need a microscope, some words scale and go outside borders and get cut off and you can't read the words on the buttons you want to click, and some videos that don't scale are like icons and you can't watch it. SMH

Tl;dr

27" 1440p = perfect for Windows in its current state unless you need the resolution for video or photo editing or have eyes like a hawk.
