Just a heads up on Expansys purchase. Price excludes any customs/GST. So if purchase including shipping is under NZ$400, you will hopefully be fine but if it's over NZ$400 incl shipping then there is a good chance you will be pinged for GST/Customs.

Do whatever you want to do man.

sidefx: Please do, I'm still heavily debating whether to get this for my better half to replace her 625. I'd love to hear what others think about the 640 vs 735 - both look really nice, but it seems they compromise a little in different areas.

Only set it up yesterday as wanted to get a screen protector first and also needed to get everything transferred from my micro-sim to a nano-sim. So haven't used it extensively yet but liking it so far. It's nice to have a flash for the main camera and the front facing camera (I've not had one before) is really good. The Lumia Selfie app seems to take a mirror image by default but there's a button to flip it around after you take it. There's no camera shutter button like there is with the 520 but no issue really as you can just use the timer to make it easier if taking a selfie. Feels and looks premium compared to the 520 which I've been using for the last 18 months.

Only thing I can't figure out so far is whether I can import apps (specifically games with saved progress) from my other phone. I have some saved with their data on the micro-sd care but the 735 can't seem to find them, anyone know if this is possible? No big deal if I have to start from scratch again but there's 1 or 2 games that would be nice if I could carry on where I left off.

It's $247 now at Harvey Norman for the long weekend so fully recommend it at that deal. Feeling slightly annoyed as I didn't need to rush into it (though I still spent the whole weekend debating it at $297), but loving the phone as an upgrade from the 520. Can't go wrong for this price.

On the app backup thing, apps can do this by saving stuff to a hidden directory in your OneDrive, but they need to be written to take advantage of this

Part of the normal backup/restore.

Thanks. I can't seem to figure out to get to restore - can you do this after the initial setup or would I need to reset the phone? Unfortunately because I had a micro-sim and this takes a nano-sim I went into Vodafone to get everything transferred onto a new nano-sim before I'd even put in the battery and turned the phone on and the person who did it seemed to bypass all the setup apart from copying over contacts. It's no major deal if I can't do it - it's only really a couple of games where I'd managed to earn all the extras over time so would be nice not to have to start from scratch again. I tried backing these up to OneDrive on the previous phone, but can't see them anywhere.

When I got the 520 I had to transfer from an old standard sim to a micro-sim and they just put the new one in a machine and gave it to me so I did the whole phone setup so I assumed that would happen again but this time they plugged the phone in and went through the setup seemingly bypassing the restore stage.

Ok just have to say for the price of the phone I am very happy with it.
Only down side is no glance screen on it due to the screen tech (however the screen is really nice to look at) but apart from that it's a great phone for the $250 price this weekend.

Just wish that wear tech would work with it (android or pebble).

I would be tempted, but it seems to lack the apps that you get with IOS and Android, such as google Apps. Am I right that googles apps aren't  on it, like the offical youtube app, and chromecasting?

No they are not :( Google does not do apps for windows phone as the market share is not enough for them to care etc.  Saying that however some other companies are starting to take notice of the OS, things like spotify etc now have way better apps than they use too.

I really do like the OS but just not having the apps etc that I need is a bit of a problem.  This however should get a lot better when windows 10 etc come out as the coding between desktop to mobile for app devs is a lot better.

Well the sale is over, the phone is now back to $599

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/phone-and-gps/mobile-phones/microsoft-lumia-735-windows-phone-grey.html

Is it worth $599?
No, not when you can get an lumia 830 with more space and better camera.

It's back on sale

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/phone-and-gps/mobile-phones/microsoft-lumia-735-windows-phone-grey.html

$277
If you are in the market for a new phone or if you are like me and like having back up phone then it is a good buy.
The phone will be getting windows 10 going by the insider program.

A quick 735 review for those who've asked.
At ¬$300 or less the phone now sits where it should if MS want it to be a competive option to similar spec'd Android devices (Moto-G)
Best features:
- Screen is great for out door (sunlight) viewing, and its a good size and resolution too.
- The 735 is sold thru HN in an 'unbranded' form, no VF or Spark bloatware, and it will work on both too. (Buy other NZ Lumia models and they'll have some form of carrier association in the start-up)
What I don't like:
- Can't store off line maps to SD, but that may change when W10 comes along(?).

I'd been looking to replace my 520 (Spark) work phone, and the 735 does that well. And being able to use it on VF is a good bonus (HD voice is great).
