Yeah, as I said above, on request, I can flash the 1.8 version of the firmware/stock rom, and update the OS, to Android 4.4.2 before I send it out.

I'm not sure which exact model this guy is selling, but I've just ordered something similar for a Stream 7 (very similar hardware to the 8) from alibaba that probably works (and looks to be the same model as the one on the tap-that page).

Presumably posting a link to alibaba results in me being drawn and quartered so I'll avoid that. Model is "Acasis H027".

Yes i found that link last night, looks to be the exact same hub for either side of USD10 incl shipping to NZ, form what i read if something works for the 7 it works for the 8 as well so safe bet it will do as intended. Keen to hear how you get on once you receive it

If you are going to order from Alibaba, be sure to pick a supplier that offers PayPal or trade assurance insurance (to insure that you are not scammed). Alibaba is a bit like a chinese flea market.

Also, china mail takes 2-4 weeks, and swedish post can take up to two months, so be aware of the potential transit times when you are not selecting EMS or DHL.

It's a great market obviously (14-16 NZD is an excellent price for a charging hub for example), but it pays to be wary.

Most alibaba sellers are not doing single sales anymore, all that's been pushed to aliexpress now.

Full escrow on aliexpress which partly goes towards the much higher prices now :(

Consider the following very constructive criticism, I find it amusing that you partially stonewalled my attempts to buy this form you (no availability date, no advice on if it would possibly work) but then you provide constructive advice on buying elsewhere,

If you wait to order stock until such time as you can order everything at once you will always be out of stock of something. After your suggestion to research it myself a quick google provided me plenty of information which would suggest it will work, check out the HP Stream7 thread on GZ. Get your hands on one of these and trial it, in fact crowd source the testing thru the good folk of GZ. At $20 a pop you could sell a bunch of these, hell offer a group buy to justify shipping them themselves

I have asked my supplier about this and some other accessories due to your request for info, and as soon as I have the detail about when I can have it in approximately, I'll let you know here.

I just prefer to have the info first, rather than leading you along.

My next order probably will just be these extra accessories and if I make an extra sale or so, it should be soon, so all going well it won't be long.

As another aside, I discovered that the Cube Talk 9x requires a software fix to run chrome correctly and that works fine. As such they will all be updated to 4.4.2, KitKat on shipping, because I am applying said fix.

Okay, I have made the order. I estimate it will be 1.5 weeks before I have it. I can't be exactly sure because customs is very variable. I will let you know here as soon as it arrives :)

I am also bringing in as well as the acasis charging USB hub:

Flexible table bracket for a tablet (for you know, holding your tablet up for watching movies, or next to your desk, sofa etc)

Fine tip capacitive stylus

Wifi card reader and power bank (for extra media storage on a tablet, this one takes up to a 128gb microSD card)

Ipega 9023 telescopic bluetooth gaming pad - these things are pretty cool for playing desktop games on a windows tablet, they fit around the tablet, turning it into into a handheld console of sorts.

Some of those are pretty useful to anyone with a windows tablet. I've got my eye on some of these myself.

Don't take this as antagonistic, but I have seen a lot of people selling cheap tablets from Aliexpress and they are often supplied with not just illegal, but downright dangerous power supplies (chargers), and the sellers probably are unaware that such a mains connected power supply/charger requires an SDoC.

Yup. I have reported a few sellers on trademe, but their attitude seems to be that if it looks like it plugs in then its fine. Reports to energy safety went ignored to the best of my knowledge.

Far too many importers just ignoring the safety rules. After there was the person fried off a fake iphone charger it looked like there might be some movement on that front, but it seems they only give a crap about non approved xmas lights, something much less likey to kill you than a dodgey power supply.

I have a single supplier in China at this point. When I get bigger, I will probably do some of my ordering direct from the manufacturers.

As far as power supply, no worries there, I wouldn't sell them with plugs requiring adapters, not only is it illegal, but it's unsafe - as you have said.

I guess this is part of the problem with trademe. A lot of traders who aren't actually following NZ laws.

All my tablets I sell with NZ certified 2.0 amp USB wall adapters :) The majority tablet's use only micro USB to charge these days anyway, so it's not hard at all to buy a decent NZ USB wall adapter and include it with the tablet.

I am away from my office atm, but I could post a picture here if you'd like later on if you'd like? The one I am including atm is Samsung brand, it's very solid.

If it has a standard NZ plug pattern, AND the live and neutral are correctly sleeved*, and you have completed the SDoC. Then you are probably OK.

* China uses (mainly) our same plug style, however they don't require insulating sleeves on the live and neutral pins, but AU and NZ do (in modern times).

You are required to produce it if requested (if the item requires one, which chargers/adapters do).

And I thought you were buying in from China yourself, which makes you the importer.

(again I don't say this to be antagonistic, just these are high visibility items and the powers that be have been known to do the odd crack down on these consumer items, so you should have your ducks in a row)
