I've ordered 2 960s for the gaming pcs. Goodbye spinning rust for the steam drives. Finally will have silence.

TimA: And i dont believe in debt :).

Guess you will always be renting then?

This is what credit cards are for. And rewards. Mmmm rewards points. Soon I will have enough for a CD or something useless.

I bought a car last month, on a credit card. Paid off obviously, but the cash back was good at $1/$68...

I didn't buy mine on credit card, the car yard wouldn't let us.  Very disappointed.

I tried to do the same for my wife's car, the most they'd let me put on it was $5K. That's $66 towards our next holiday though.

Had no problem, put 100% of the car on credit card, and it was way more than $5k.

The general point with credit cards is make them work for you not the bank, and that can (and should always) be based around not using the card to fund real debt. My 'rules' are:

* charge every possible purchase we make to the credit card, with the only exception being for purchases where the credit card charges outweigh the rewards (eg rates)
* never purchase anything on the card that we don't already have the money for saved and in the bank, ready to pay off when due (so careful budgeting is a must, which also avoids living pay cheque-to-pay cheque)
* ensure we're on one of the best available cardd and reward schemes
* pay off the card in full on the due date (goes without saying!).

meesham: ...

I don't quite understand how the "Import Fees Deposit" is calculated, I thought it should be around NZ $62.

They calculate the *probable total tax* which they tend to overcharge but will refund them within 30 days or so.

I had one item bought from them recently >$1k, and had to pay a couple of hundy of tax which amazon automagically refund within 30 days or so. I personally prefer Amazon to deal with the custom up front as I have been in the situation where it took ages for the custom to contact me etc.

That doesn't sound right, i got a 240 GB one as well, came up to $155 NZD (incl shipping and after conversion rate), you can buy the same at PBtech for around $170 so it's not that huge of a discount.

Perhaps you hit the links after the discounts were finished?

If they let you do that you could probably have gotten more of a discount by paying cash. You got 1.2% back (or whatever) and they paid 1-3% fees. Maybe you could've gotten part of those fees as a discount :)

Nope, that was final price and I only showed the card after setting on it. They took it.

Pricing went up as the deal was coming to an end - I looked at the 960gb in the morning then again last night, and it had gone up by $90USD from the 'morning price'
