Was online with an MS rep re loading more XBL Gold on my account and we discussed this deal and he confirmed that it is intended to work as set out in this thread. So yeah - this is an EXCELLENT deal.

Yep, after burning through a few Xbox Live Gold pre-paid cards, I upgraded mine successfully to Ultimate expiring in Apr 2022.

Whatever you do though, don't go over the 3 year limit! I bought a 12 month gold membership through Microsoft, then 2 X 12 month Gold prepaid cards. Because I opted in for the free month with recurring payments when redeeming the first card, I couldn't redeem the 2nd card as I could only redeem 11 months max effectively. Ended up having to sell the 12 months and buy a few 3 month cards.

I had this, just wait until the subscription drops below three years, then you can add the extra year subscription.

Unfortunately I would have had to wait 2 months for that, and after this deal ends, gold cards can only be converted over at a rate of 12 months gold = 4 months ultimate.

It still ends up more value to buy gold prepaid cards and convert them 1-to-1 with the upgrade deal.

I had a little bit of work to do to get mine up and running but I have ultimate @ $1 until October next year. Wasn't financial enough to buy another 18 months but certainly not complaining.

For me my issue was around my Gamepass sub had recently expired and I wasn't planning on getting it again until a bit later on. Now when I went to do the $1 it wouldn't allow me to as it had expired and had a negative 6 month balance on there. Soo... I tried cancelling the sub via console and website but there was no option to cancel it in its current negative balance state.

Jumped on my pc and started a chat with MS help and they cancelled it on their end which in turn wiped the negative amount and allowed me to resubscribe for $1.

Most definitely a great deal and if you have the little bit of cash it's most definitely worth getting as close as possible to the 3yr limit before buying the Gamepass Ultimate subscription.

well, you couldn't (exceed 3 years of membership), if you tried. 😊 afaik, that has always been the 'gold' policy... not specifically to do with this deal.

had to get a couple of 1-month subscriptions to get as close to 3 years, before converting... now to find the time to play... my kids will love it, of course...

Sorry, the first sentence should have been clearer: don't get more than 3 years worth of in any combination of gold gift cards, free months etc. But as you see from the rest of my comment, that is the crux of the matter, I didn't know until I tried and failed. Thus why I posted it.

Regardless, I still got near enough to 3 years worth as well. I don't have kids, but I have the same trouble of trying to find the time to use it.

I did exactly the same thing and logged a case with Xbox support. They ended up cancelling all the subs and then adding back the 2 years so that I could use the final voucher. All up to 3 years before upgrading. It took a while but they were really good getting it sorted.

Mother-flippers, I sat waiting for 20 mins to speak to them online for them to tell me it couldn't be done. YMMV with support I guess.

The person was suspiciously polite and well-spoken (written?) though, so maybe I was actually speaking to an advanced chat-bot.

Good that you managed to get it sorted though.
