PSLog: Well it turns out it was $16 for 6 months of Amazon Prime ($12 was for a diamond membership).

I've ordered it and I'll let you know if it is a scam or not.

They may not be scamming you... they may be scamming Amazon or Netflix by registering accounts that purport to be for one family each whereas in fact they're for disparate unrelated users.

These sorts of "shared services" are great.

I stand outside my neighbours house and "share" their Netflix until they pull the blinds. Really the major downsides are the volume is quite low, often very hard to hear, and you dont' really get to pick what show to watch as there's only one controller for Netflix and it's inside my neighbours house.

Otherwise though the value is well worth it.

If a service goes as low as to offer shared accounts, it's a huge asking to trust it won't be all around dodgy with credit card data.

OK Here's what happened.

My order was submitted at 10.43 Aug 09
VISA saw the transaction that day after I had cancelled the account.
It was showing as "pending" and they were going to raise a dispute.
The subscription was "delivered" at 14.40 August 10.

The delivery was an email with an account name and password and instructions on how to get an OTP code.
This involved logging in to a RoundCube email account and get the code from an email waiting there.
The account location can be either USA or Brazil - not NZ. and my name is Barbara.

Once logged in to Amazon Prime on my TV I was shown access to some movies and TV shows (not as many as I had seen on a 1 month offer direct from the company a few weeks ago).

When I went to try to watch any of them (or the several that I tried) I had to either buy them or rent them.

So.

It looks like it is a scam of both Amazon Prime and me.

I can handle the small cost to me and will put it down to experience. And I may yet get the money back through VISA - but won't hold my breath.

So I guess it's "I told you so".

VISA raised a dispute.
Qeeq contacted me and asked Why? I explained.
They said, if I cancelled the dispute they'd refund me.
I said, If they refund me I will cancel the dispute.
VISA then processed the refund anyway.

All good - and a bit wiser. (Even at 70, you can still get wiser!)

Epilogue:

So the scam part of this thing kicked in after the event.

I have now had two mobile calls from "Amazon-Prime" saying that my credit card will be charged for the next month's subscription unless I "opt out".
If I take the opt out option I get to speak to a foreign gentleman who will help me to undertake the opt out option.
If you just go to PlayStore and key in "t" "e" "a" "m" "v" "i" "e" ...... Hey why are you asking me to instal "teamviewer"? "Oh, our server is down and this the only way to opt out at the moment".

Yeah - right.

Since I replaced my credit card, they don't have my current number anyway: so they can't charge it.

Sometimes it seems these scams are quite involved and have an eye on the long game.

I use three (four if you count kids savings accounts)

Bank my pay goes into, bank we have a credit card with and bank that we have a mortgage with. (only for historical reasons not for safety)

The other thing that is frequently involved with this is that they use stolen cards to buy the services in the first place, then on-sell to you before those transactions get charged back (and if they're bought as gift codes or product keys, it can take a while for that cancellation to work its way through). This is what's behind a lot of stuff like G2G and Kinguin.

Good ol money laundering.
