Will soak it for a month or so first of all, make sure mail from it isn't going to get blacklisted etc etc. But for the price it was hard to beat!

What do you use for your mail hosting? and does it have activesync capabilities? or is it a simple web interface type setup?

Just to be annoying, while this is cheap it's also typical of the offers you see on https://lowendbox.com/ - where a very similar "exclusive" offer was posted a couple of weeks ago, at a slightly lower price. https://www.lowendtalk.com/categories/offers and https://hostedtalk.net/c/offers are other places to look if you want to see similar deals.

One thing I would say is I am really impressed at least with the speed test server performance -

was downloading at 150mbps from their server in LA.

Now whether it is sustainable once more load goes on, who knows, but that's the same question for all VPS services where contention ratio's are a thing.

I'm just trying to think of a small project that would justify me purchasing one, because it seems like something handy to have.

That's awesome! Also the good news is that we have plenty plenty of capacity, and monitor our nodes, our servers have bonded ports - and we are always ensuring stability. Give us a shot, you won't be disappointed :)

Do you support non-Linux OSes like FreeBSD? Understand it's not listed but if I can simply mount an ISO for the install that'd be fine with me.

I run my own Postfix for SMTP and Dovecot for IMAP. IMAP supports IDLE so I get pushed new messages. I use Roundcube for a decent webmail Interface. All spam filtering is done using rspamd, it's so good that, IMHO, it does a better job of filtering than gmail does. That said, I get to tune it myself so that's why. I provide email (on a best effort basis!) to a few family members for their various businesses.

I build it all myself and configure it myself, which is all very nerdy, oldschool, and not at all what I'd recommend any sane person do these days. If you want to do something similar but without all the farking around, I highly suggest Mailcow - a dockerized solution that provides it all for you in a secure manner.

Thanks for your interest in RackNerd

Like most datacenters/providers we do not filter generic traffic from your server/service with us, we of course scrub for malicious traffic in terms of DDoS though to fine comb other types of traffic/connectivity we suggest users to implement a software based firewall, i.e CSF or PfSense or similar as this allows users to modify/secure their environment as desired. One thing to also remember is that our KVM VPS are essentially like mini dedicated servers, this is what we love about this virtualization as opposed to OpenVZ as an example.

IPv6 is supported in Los Angeles, and we can allocate up to 100 addresses free of charge. Just open a ticket once ordered requesting these and we'll allocate them right away.

As for snapshots, this currently isn't supported, though on the roapmap. If the end user has a control panel, such as cPanel/WHM they can download backups locally (quite easily this way) or through other automated means using third party software such as Jetbackup. We'll continue to innovate to make this easier for end users.

And as for extra IPs, they're just $12/year or can be billed monthly, just open a support ticket once you've ordered (or whenever these are needed) and we can route them over.

1 more thing i forgot is ptr records so i can use 192.168.1.1.mydomain.com mail.domain.com etc

and 1 click installs
