Just in case anyone didn’t already jump on this, but still wants one, Ascent and Aquire now have these down at like $25. Something slightly weird going on.

What is going on indeed - I just ordered another one - that is crazy.

Hopefully it means the new version is close behind and they are just dumping stock?

Maybe? The pro version has been out for ages but basically totally unobtainable unless you can spend your life hitting F5 on the Ubiquiti store. Even if there is a new version, I don’t hold much hope for being able to buy one any time soon.

This link is showing for me as $33.37

Ubiquiti UniFi Protect G4 Doorbell (UVC-G4-DOORBELL) | Ascent NZ

The Acquire link does indeed look to have jumped back up now.

It's showing as $97 for me too now! Very odd.

So, provided any of them actually end up being delivered, what's everyone's plans for powering them?

The "G4 Pro" version has a USB-C port to power it (if you don't have an existing doorbell power supply for it), but I see these models (G4) need a 20VAC supply either from an existing door bell mechanism or via a (not included) power supply, though they have a hidden USB-Micro port that apparently can power the device too, even via PoE using one of these.

I purchased one in the past (from PB Tech), and it came with a DIN rail transformer. I don't recall the exact specs on it right now but it was a fairly high voltage (20V).

I am having trouble getting it to work with my mechanical chime, which is mildly annoying. I purchased the chime specifically as I didn't have any doorbell beforehand.

The wiring instructions for both the chime and the doorbell are absolute trash, which doesn't help. I'm an electrical engineer and can't figure out what the hell some of the pictorial instructions are getting at, so when it doesn't work it's just a guessing game.

That is good info @Krullos - I have CAT6 to my front door so was going to use that to send 20VAC down the wire - but a RJ45 - Micro USB adapter would be tidier.

I also found this video of someone directly using Passive PoE to power their G4

We've had one of these for a little over 2 years now and it works well. If you don't have a chime box (like we don't), with Home Assistant and Google Text to Speech you can have it announce a message over your smart speakers when someone presses the button.

Grabbed one since I am already in the Protect ecosystem.  Hope it follows through.
