Man - so we have been trying to make an active choice to by NZ made - or at least owned by NZ'rs.

Active: https://activedishwashing.co.nz/ seem to be the only local manufactured that produces good product (no green-washing barely works products thanks).

But at this sort of price!

Technology Connections does a couple of good videos on Dishwashers and their detergent (he hates the pods)

Though, that is a good price at the Warehouse for something that will clean your dishes (we just use the $5 powder from Woolworths - no complaints).

Dishwashers run two cycles: A rinse cycle, then a cleaning cycle.

Between these cycles, they drain all the water. If you "throw in a pill" to the bottom of the dishwasher, you'll get a better rinse, but cleaning will be reduced because you have no detergent during the wash cycle. That's why the drawers have that "pop" mechanism, so they can dispense the cleaning agent during the wash cycle.

Some like our Bosch check the rinse water, if it is clean enough it isn't drained and it moves straight onto the cleaning cycle.

@vexxxboy purely out of interest, does the packaging of the discounted product that you bought have any best-before or manufacturing production date printed on it?

Sodium percarbonate which is usually one of the main ingredients, has a shelf of about two years after which time its cleaning ability starts to degrade.

Given the deep discount on the product I am wondering if the product is "old". If so it may not perform as well as fresher product.

I use the active powder $13/2kg often on special for $9/2kg. It is equal or better value than the morningfresh tablet deal. I just shake the powder out of the package shape seems very controllable for that. Lately I've been using it on the 50deg eco cycle and it does a great job for us. Previously (five years!) we used Finish tablets at 65deg as per manufacturer recommendation, Simpson. Mostly a waste of money. Somewhere along the line I updated to Bormioli Rocco tempered glass plates on special from Kmart. That probably helps in some way - https://activedishwashing.co.nz/product/active-powder/ - the current packaging has "consumer recommends" stamped on it. I agree.

But these are so cheap I bought some anyway 😂

I did the trick of starting the hot water first, then starting the washing cycle. It seemed to work ok.

So same - again because of technology connections - until recently.

My kids now have packing and setting the dishwasher as one of their jobs, and the 9 year old cant handle the containers and even the older kids are wildly inconsistent. So I went back to cheap pods/tablets.

Maybe I should decant the powder into an icecream container and provide a couple of scoops......

The active powder has been good, and yeah when on special is similar in price to pams, so support local right.

Off the back of those videos too, I buy the cheapest rinse aid, as its physics and the liquid is all the same.
