TeaLeaf: So really there is no benefit to a couple in having CGNAT? I dont see what benefit it provides. No biggy either way.
It provides a benefit to us (the ISP) because there is a massive global shortage of IPv4 addresses, so we can use the few we have on more customers by uising CGNAT.
The downside is that it affects some kinds of traffic because you no longer have a specific IP address unique to your connection. Most people won't know, or care, so it won't affect them, but some people will.
We think a good balance is to use CGNAT by default, which most people won't notice, and for the few people who want a public IP, we do it at no charge.
