larknz: Conditions are here, including promotional conditions

https://www.mitre10.co.nz/gift-card-information

Thanks. I was actually after the conditions for awarding the gift cards.

I have had them in the past. It's a pretty straightforward process. You spend $100 you get a gift card, you spend $200 you get 2 gift cards. They are not pro rated for amounts less than $100.

I'm looking at getting a smart watch in the $400-500 range. I've been eyeing up the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro which has dropped from $549 to $419 at PB Tech. I've never followed the smart watch scene so I'm really not sure on what is good out there for an Android user. Any recommendations in that price range? I see there's a few Samsung watches on special at PB as well but I'm not sure what to look at.

Is Huawei still subject to that no google android support situation with America?

Believe there watches run on their own OS? The Huawei watches don't seem to support third party android apps.

Not a Boxing Day sale but big discount

Be very careful dealing with these guys. I've had the worst experience with them I've had with a retailer in many years including a 2 month wait for a refund that took threat of a credit card charge back and copying consumer institute to get what was owed me.

Sad to hear that

How recent was that experience?

I've used them for an extensive fit out 18mths ago and it was flawless, also put them to the test for a specific solution in the last six months, under new ownership and they came through as before.

MaxineN: Oh doh! My assumption is that it wasn't because we did actually look at this in store and the PBTech sales guy said that it wasn't included in any of their models and that was in November so that must have been a recent edition.

Quite frank what you have there is the better deal but IMO the 6 cores is worth having and the extra storage as those photo files can get huge.

Another thing to note. The 8gb is soldered with another sodimm slot being empty. Mcafee is preinstalled. Apart from that it's almost a clean install of windows and my fiancee can get around 8 hours just drawing at max brightness. She loves it and with whatever option you choose you'll be satisfied.

@MaxineN: Thanks for the warning re advice you'd received from PB staff re stylus; I managed to get the last box held for me at the Henderson store, but also asked them to confirm the advice I'd received (that a stylus was included*), and they backed what you'd been told: no stylus. So another $114 for the pen and suddenly it's not nearly the value proposition it initially seemed. Looks like we'll be purchasing from Just Laptops as you did - a no-brainer in the end given the better processor, 2x HDD, and stylus included.

* PB Tech's reply: The description at the top of the product page is entered manually by the product manager, if states "with Stylus" then it's included the the laptop. Some model of this laptop don't include the stylus, the rest of the product description is copied from the manufactures website, and thus is a general description of the laptop and thus doesn't list optional feature like the stylus.

Huawei watches use their own OS - that's why their battery life is so amazing. The whole US / Huawei / Google spat has zero impact on their watches. I've been using a GT 2e for about 6 weeks now and it does everything I'd expect a fitness watch to do.

How smart focussed are they? (I will go and read the review above too thanks)

I have garmin and it’s excellent for fitness tracking/has gps and even has on device Spotify.
Not ideal from a smart watch perspective, as that’s not its focus really.

Sounds like a pretty good price for the specs, even at the original crossed out price of $1640 I reckon!

Well that depends by what you mean by "smart". They're a great fitness tracker and have notifications which is all a large percentage of people probably use. The obvious downside of not being Wear OS based is the app support.

I had a play with a GT 2 Pro and a couple of other watches on display at NL - ended up buying an Oppo Watch 46mm. Really happy with the feature set on it and the design, and having Wear OS is a plus - limited interaction with notifications was a killer for me on the GT 2 Pro. Oppo came with free W31's via redemption as well.

I'd actually pay extra, get it delivered and have a stylus included.

We just bought the same laptop for my fiancee's uni work(digital art design) and this top notch.

Good to hear positive comments about the model; according to a to-the-point email I got a few months back from PBT, this does come with the stylus (as apparently obvious in the title description of the page - I thought it wasn’t that clear!)

The issue is my son wants a 360 with stylus for art but has to meet any cost over $1k and has little on-hand cash to do so...

Upon further inspection this morning it seems the base model from just laptops has 4GB soldered and another 4GB in the sodimm slot.

I also dropped 1600 on the ryzen 7 model with stylus from Hornby PBTech because I forgot my fiancée will be doing 3D and film work in addition to illustration and other things. Doh!
