Actuallly looked more carefully and realised I was wrong. I actually had

NiMH batteries potentially 5% duty

Card game potentially 5% duty

USB cables potentially 5% duty

I'm pretty sure an external hard disk and USB stick is duty free though. I was pretty sure it would be fine but was only like NZD2 off the NZD60. Seemed a bit silly to risk it especially since I was only doing it to save on shipping. (I don't order from Amazon much.) So I adjusted my order so the total came out to be about NZ$370 and they took off the customs deposit. As I understand the way Amazon works (from other posts on GeekZone), Amazon doesn't charge you more if it's over the deposit. So I presume this means if there's no deposit they don't charge you whatever's the case.

If I had a home theatre with a receiver with no BT or Wireless Id buy one.

Any other uses, because this is a good price.

Has anyone had fun with price matching on Black Friday?

I was looking about for a Fitbit for the SO and noticed Noel Lemming are suspiciously completely out of stock (in store country-wide and online) despite the fact that Harvey Norman have them on a very good sale. Either most people have gone through the effort of price matching to Noel Lemming or something fishy is going on. I can't imagine a product manager can keep his job if the entire chain is out of stock of a current model (no ETA) and yet Harvey Norman have stock still.

I would imagine it may also depend on how much the sale increased purchases. In other words, if Harvey Norman was planning a special sale, they may have stocked up on Fitbits. If Noel Leeming weren't, they wouldn't have done so. If the purchase increase is really that high due to the sale, you wouldn't need that many to spill over to NL via the price promise to easily exhaust their stock, so particularly with the $20 voucher it doesn't seem that surprising they may really run out of stock.

I don't think NL is supposed to know that Harvey Norman is planning a sale, actually if they did find out via HN this could spell legal problems for both. Maybe they could guess from various ways, but well it's complicated and I don't know if I'd necessarily say the purchasing manager was incompetent just for not predicting that someone would have a super sale which would quickly deplete their stock of Fitbits even if it was near Christmas and Black Friday.

More to the point though, if Harvey Norman negotiated a good deal which means they aren't losing from the sale, but NL hasn't, I question whether it's actually resonable to expect NL to increase stock just so they can price match someone else's sale. (Again particularly with the $20 voucher.) Did they actually advertise the Fitbits in their Black Friday flyer?

I mean maybe NL can quickly get more stock of the FitBit but is it actually implied via the Price Promise or some aspect of NZ law that they should? Companies are expected to ensure they have resonable stock and ensure any advertisements for a sale make it clear if any of the items they are advertising are very limited stock, and abide by their price matching offers. This probably precludes hiding stock just so you don't have to price match but that would seem to be about the limit.

P.S. I did successfully PM a food processor on Noel Leeming yesterday online. Actually funnly enough from HN.

Yep, I originally thought this as well. Then I called six Harvey Norman stores and they confirmed that they had stock still (all 5+ units at least) which peaked my suspicions. How can one retailer be completely out of stock nationwide yet another selling the same device at a much better price still have stock. Either stock management is a complete joke to NL or something is not right. A couple of links for you:

I checked the NL site yesterday evening and the little "Find in Store" button below the buy now one showed out of stock (not just low, actually "out of stock") for every store and online purchases needed to be "ordered from the supplier". This was confirmed by their help line and I called a few nearby stores who all said "sorry, out of stock".

I check first thing this morning, 8:30am, and the current level of stock is present. Most stores have several units available and some are low with probably one or two. A quick call to the help line confirms they have stock and I call several stores and all confirm they have stock. One store clerk I spoke with said he didn't think they had taken delivery of any FitBit stock that morning and even if they had it is unlikely to have been added to inventory so quickly.

This just smacks of NL trying to escape their price promise during Black Friday. They had issued an additional $20 discount coupon for any purchase over $100 so I am guessing they did not want to match HN and still take $20 off.

EDIT: I know it might just sound a bit conspiratorial but I just can't fathom a way that all (north and south island) stores change from "out of stock" to having either low stock or 4+ units over night on a Sunday and all before 8:30am. I suppose I figured out the true value of their price match promise when I queried their T&C rules which state NL has to have the unit in stock for them to price match. I was told: "The rules are set by our marketing department, they provide no reasons but they set the rules". The promise is a publicity stunt, not an actual genuine promise to match a competitor unless they absolutely have no way to weasel out of it.

Don't know about the 20% coupon but the 10% one LOVEFROMYOUSHOP is "Valid until 8th December 2017. Can be used multiple times for YouShop shipping."
