Ahh I see - I thought you meant comments at home, but I now see them in this thread. The smell is not bad IMO, just strong, and I got over it very quickly when they worked well :D

Active: https://activedishwashing.co.nz/ seem to be the only local manufactured that produces good product (no green-washing barely works products thanks).
We've just moved into a house with a dish drawer (3 years old) and bought active tablet. We've had quite a few of plates coming out not clean. My comparison was Meile, with finish tablets and perfect results almost every time. In the Meile, we'd just chuck the tablet on the bottom. With the dish drawer, we're putting it in the cutlery basket. I don't think the tablets would fit in the pop-open compartment.

In this case, you should try switching to a different tablet or powder. Placing the tablet a the bottom will wash it away with the first rinse water, in effect having no cleaning solution at all for the actual cleaning cycle.

Mike Aqua .... my daughter bought a house with the F & P 2-drawer already installed ... absolutely useless.
She resorts to a full dispenser of powder, plus a sprinkle over the dishes themselves.
I guess if Lotto comes in I'll be stumping up for a new unit 😀
I often hear people saying they are getting bad results from dishdrawer. Don't currently have one but have had a few and they always cleaned well for me. As mentioned above, using detergent of any type in the cabinet instead of the dispenser means it is all used up in the pre-rinse leaving none for the main wash. I recommend using powder in the dispenser and paying careful attention to stacking so that water from the spray arms is able to flow over all surfaces.

The thing is ... dropping a tablet in the bottom worked fine in the Meile. And ... a finish tablet in the cutlery basket works fine in the single dish drawer in our apartment (~2010 model). I'll try finish again before I resort to powder. And maybe I also need to try your priming technique
I'd be interested to know if anyone has found a tablet that fits in the detergent compartment in a dish drawer (~2023 model).
In the new build we're having two proper dishwashers. Probably Meile built-ins.

Algorithm threw me this guy's followup which reinforces the importance of retaining detergent for the main cycle:

Bit of extra in the pre-wash dispenser or outside the dispenser for the pre-wash is a great idea as alluded to by a poster earlier in this thread.

I ended up with a couple of loads of dishes last night so I did some experimenting. According to the display, the heavy cycle has no pre-rinse. It goes directly to wash. I think if I use the heavy cycle, and Mauricio's priming technique I'm good.
This morning I took the unprecedented step of reading the manual. It says not to put tablets or gels in the dispenser. There are two little posts in the dispenser that prevent insertion of tablets (visible on Page 13 here). At least I think that's what they're for. It also says to put the tablet in the cutlery basket or on the bottom.
So yeah .... RTFM 😊

The "priming" it's only feasible if the water intake is coming through the hot water. Check your setup.
Someone mentioned to me that it should actually be on the cold water, as the machine heating is more efficient and economical than the gas heating we have.
So YMMV.

These pills work great but they do smell strongly.
Got these for F&P 2 drawer and works completely fine. Ended up getting a years supply for $48 vs $200-$240 for Finish
They've messed up a bit here, I checked store stock before purchasing, all was OK
Ordered, and an hour later got an email saying
"Unfortunately we've not been able to locate the following items just yet.
We've got our best people looking through our stores around the country for you. This can sometimes add a few days to delivery, and we apologise for the delay. We'll get back to you with an update within 2 - 5 days."
I suspect in 2-5 days I'll see a refund

These seem to work ok https://www.woolworths.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=183866&name=shine-10-in-1-dishwasher-tablets-lemon
I did notice at New-world the other day there were new 50/pc tablets for $10 as well but they don't appear on the website.
These dishwasher tablets are really good 👍

Ours is connected to hot. The pipe feels hot when running. Interestingly we bough a new front load washing machine recently for the apartment and it only has a cold water connection. It does all its own water heating.
