So it was an email targetted at Black Friday shoppers too I assume? Interesting, I wonder why some people like me got one and some people got the other. Maybe some sort of test? Or maybe it's targetted although I haven't used Youshop for quite a while (January 2016) so would assume I'd have gotten the 20%.

I am interested in this Bose wireless device to enhance the connectivity of my Pioneer AV receiver (VSX-1018) and an older Denon stereo system, but am wondering whether it will work for my purpose. I have a sizeable collection of music CDs some of which I have ripped as MP3s to my Android smartphone, and probably to an iPad Mini 4 next. It would be more convenient to play my music collection to my smartphone or tablet instead of loading individual CDs, but I would like to output the sound through either my AV receiver or stereo system's speakers. I read the Bose wireless adapter works well for music streaming services such as Pandora, Amazon Prime Music but I don't intend to subscribe to any online streaming service. I also read review from one user who had difficulty playing their own music collection.

If anyone has experience with this Bose Soundtouch wireless adapter, can they please advise whether I can stream my MP3 music collection from my smartphone / iPad Mini 4 with this device to my AV receiver and stereo system. Also would it be possible to stream audio only from Youtube video clips from tablet to my speakers using this Bose wireless adapter instead having to cast both video and audio to my smart TV using Chromecast as I presently do.

I only got a "use YouShop for your Black Friday" generic email, no coupons at all. Both however work on my account.

Seeing as I (in theory) have a few more days, I'll wait for another parcel to use the 20% coupon and save a bit more

I checked the NL site yesterday evening and the little "Find in Store" button below the buy now one showed out of stock (not just low, actually "out of stock") for every store and online purchases needed to be "ordered from the supplier". This was confirmed by their help line and I called a few nearby stores who all said "sorry, out of stock".

I check first thing this morning, 8:30am, and the current level of stock is present. Most stores have several units available and some are low with probably one or two. A quick call to the help line confirms they have stock and I call several stores and all confirm they have stock. One store clerk I spoke with said he didn't think they had taken delivery of any FitBit stock that morning and even if they had it is unlikely to have been added to inventory so quickly.

This just smacks of NL trying to escape their price promise during Black Friday. They had issued an additional $20 discount coupon for any purchase over $100 so I am guessing they did not want to match HN and still take $20 off.

We walked into the Queenstown Noel Leemings on Sunday and got an Alta HR, it looked like they had quite a bit of stock in the cabinet.

You might want to consider a Chromecast Audio?

You could upload all your ripped music to Google Play Music (free) and play from any device with the app.

For Youtube, if you subscribe to Google Play Music/Youtube Red you can use the Youtube Music app to play music from Youtube without the video.

You could upload all your ripped music to Google Play Music (free) and play from any device with the app.

For Youtube, if you subscribe to Google Play Music/Youtube Red you can use the Youtube Music app to play music from Youtube without the video.

@lookout: Thank you for your comments. I got two different opinions from JB Hifi in-store staff yesterday about the Bose wireless adapter. I now read that its Bluetooth capability might work for me but I shall consider the Chromecast Audio as you have suggested, too.

Haha, Queenstown was one of the stores I called. I wonder if it is just policy to say they are out of stock during sales like Black Friday. How are you liking it? I'm hoping the SO will enjoy it for Christmas. :)

Amex has a good deal til the 30th that a purchase at selected retailers of more than $50 qualifies you for a $20 rebate so this combined with the HN price match and the $20 NL voucher would have brought the Alta HR to roughly the same price as it is on Amazon. Well close enough that I don't feel ripped off. After all the effort I put in to make a purchase at an NZ retailer I didn't feel the slightest twinge of guilt buying from Amazon and it was still cheaper.

Including shipping I paid NZ$153 to Amazon and with all the possible coupons from NL I would have paid NZ$178 as well as an Amex rebate of $20 for a total cost of $158.

Taking GST into account I was happy to pay around $165 so $178 was an OK deal in my books. Certainly better than I have seen in NZ as yet.

I said all this to the guy on their helpline but I suppose sales is a little above his pay grade.

*shrugs* This is just one more anecdote I will relay to anyone who tells me I should feel bad for making purchases online instead of locally.

In the past I have had real trouble getting pricing etc from Noel Leeming over the phone. My son got the Alta HR, he preferred the size over the Charge, he seems to like it.

We only went into NL to check the sizing, was going to order it from JB or to try to get NL to price match, but since NL were selling it for the same price he just got it there

You later posts do make it sound like something questionable went on. Although I'm not particularly surprised by the answer from calling in store. From my experience with these sort of things, staff tend to just rely on what the computer system says. And there's a resonable chance the online checker is tied to the same system their store uses. Meaning if it was recorded as out of stock online, it would be out of stock in their store computer system, and unless the person who answered had actually looked at their FitBit's recently, they'd just being reporting what the computer told them. (I once had a minor disagreement with a staffer at the Warehouse when they wouldn't believe they'd had stock of a product a few days ago because something in the computer told them they didn't even though I'd seen them with my own eyes.)

Although I have to say I've price matched about 3 times at NL including as said during the Black Friday weekend thing and more elsewhere; albeit mostly in store and elsewhere as have nearly always been successful. As have those who've I've seen reported, generally WHS due to their 5%. There was one time where a Warehouse store was reluctant or didn't seem to understand their policy, I asked on Facebook for clarification and I used that and then had no problem. Price matching online is IMO still more difficult. Well maybe if you're willing to call, but I've never liked that. NL at least does have their live chat provided it's working.

It's true that the conditions are generally stringent and require the item to be in stock, but I can't say I fault them for that provided they aren't doing something dodgy like hiding stock. (The other issue is proving the price if it's not shown online, some stores may call but of course if the store they call figures out what's going on they may not respond accurately. Fortunately in the age of the smart phone it's not hard to have decent evidence. That said my experience is mostly with low value items. If your trying this with a $1000 item it may be more difficult if the price is particularly low although I'd be surprised if such a thing isn't advertised online.)

Retail stores will actively tell their staff to deal with price check / stock enquiries in a certain way.

If someone rings a store and asks how much stock of something they have, how could the staff member know who is actually on the phone? Is it a customeR? Is it the head buyer for a competitor, is it a sales person from a competing store? Is it a competing supplier / distributor looking to gain market intel?

The store sales people will be trained to say 'we have it, or we can get it'... but they will be told to NEVER give out numbers in stock. After all, their business is THEIR business.

Guess what, it's the same for the lowest price.

They want you to come in face-to-face as they know there's a much higher chance that it's a genuine sales opportunity that way, and not just a random person calling every retailer in NZ while they sit at work, researching their next $200 purchase.

Guess how many times Noel Leeming would ring a Harvey Norman to check a price / stock in order to work out a price match deal for a customer? Why would HN want to make it easier. Why would Noel Leeming give JB HiFi info about when they expect stock on a hot item etc?

It's annoying - but it's more of a symptom of a competitive (and often disruptive) marketplace IMHO.
