At the age of 84. Not a bad innings!

RIP Richie

Sad news, but had been ill for a while. Certainly lived to a good age, and you have to die from something.

Interesting that they are looking at giving him a state funeral. Sure, he was a good commentator, and somewhat iconic in Australia in the world of cricket / sport. But not sure if a state funeral is appropriate, as it is normally for Prime Ministers, Governor Generals. We didn't have one for Sir Paul Holmes for instance who would be of the same ilk. David Lange didn't get one either, although he was offered one.

RIP Richie.  The current mob of channel 9 driveling numpties couldn't hold a candle to the commentary legend.  And oh , he was a pretty handy cricketer in his day as well.

Agree, I wonder what he thought about how Oz handled themsleves after winning the WC, and those interviews which were like product placement for the advertisers. It certainly wasn't classy. He was someone who thought before he spoke.

And lets not forget his disgust at "the underarm incident"

I certainly enjoyed his commentary of cricket, a great loss to the game
