Santner gets 2 lives, he better do something with it or I think we might be dropped permanently.

Munro should have replaced Santner. And De Gron Homme should have been at 6 not 8.

Still we got Watling to come and Williamson still out there so we should easily get a 100 lead and if our Tail wags another 150, I think that should be enough with the amount of turn on the wicket, these 3.5 spinners in the NZ team better get them out for sub 250.

I like your passion, but an easy 100 lead then the tail gets another 150 is dreaming. We have no issues with runs as we are in now, and we can bat again. We have an issue with time and getting 10 wickets. I say get a quickfire ODI/T20 100 lead them let them bat so we have time to bowl the out, leaving us with day 5 to get say a 100 runs, in whuich case they cannot bowl us out or the weather kicks in for a draw, but we cannot lose. It depends if we want to play to win or a draw. And bear in mind that we are now in the better part of the tail right now.

I agree but did you see Mahurager turn the ball yesterday, he was just bamboozling our batsmen and its only going to turn more. I think we need a lead of 150 and 1day 1 session to bowl them out and hopefully not have anything to chase :-).

We have no problem bowling their top 6 out haha, we just have some issue bowling their tail out.

Im with Kepler Vessels, NZ need to stop this fascination of picking all rounders. Once all are fit we should pick our 6 best batsmen and a keeper and our 4 best bowlers, and if we are going to bowl a Spinner it needs to be someone who can turn it and that means Sodhi, while hes young.

At the moment once you get passed Williamson we look like tail enders all the way until the end barring Watling.

So yeah getting 10 wickets is a problem but so is our batting selection.

Im looking forward to Raval getting a go at filling a few overs, hes as good as Santner or Patel.

Did you see the send of Morne Morkel gave him? Up in his face with abuse, Raval just kept walking, such a cool customer. But I hope our bowlers bounce Morkel and give him a bigger spray when hes gone. Was totally outside sportsmanship, was more like an Aussie thing to do.

Latham, Ravel, Williamson, Taylor, Neesham (as a batsman only) Anderson, Watling, Wagner, Southee, Boult, Ferguson/Henry/Shodi depending on the track.

Id definitely give up on the all rounder thing and I do think Nesham has potential as a batsman.

For now though id go

Raval, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Munro, Guptil, Watling, Southee, Ferguson, Boult, Wagner. And if we need another spinner outside the 2 part timers (Raval/Williamson), ie sub continent I 100% agree replace Ferguson (until he lives up to his potential) with Sodhi.

Thats an extremely strong batting line up, gives us back the attack that Mccullum gave us, put Guptil in a position where he can play his natural game and not worry about seeing off the shine of the new ball and gives us 4 bowlers who can take 10 wickets.

Santner has had 3 lives now haha, ive never seen anything quite like it, as usual hes scoring at a blistering pace 13 off 60 balls lol.

I think we need to bat to 1 hour into the second session, then if we have say 4 wickets in hand we treat the last hour like twenty twenty, to dry and get us as close to 500 as possible so hopefully we only have to bat once, but we also dont want to bat to long that we remove a good chance of bowling SA out in 4 sessions.

time for santner to hit out or get out, SR of 23 is not going to win us this game, id say its pretty safe to say we cant lose it but like the 1st test can draw it through not going for the win like Mccullum would have done. We only need another 100 and we need that in about 20 overs by my reckoning. That will give us 4.5 sessions to bowl SA out and score a possible 50-100.

South Africa slowing the bowling rate down.

I agree with Rigger, its plain out cheating. How are they bowling so slowly with no reason with spinners on?

Just totally outside the spirit of the game. They got pinged for throwing the ball in the pitch, had a cry about that when the ball had to be changed due to being out of shape. I think they should be fined their match fee for what could potentially cost NZ the match. Already behind by 8 overs.

Any country that wears green and gold = cheaters.

And Santner fails us again, 41 from 151 balls and out on the last ball before lunch. Just a waste of an actual bastmans spot. Hes no Daniel Vetorri and hes never going to be Martin Crowe, so why do we keep picking him?

I can understand persevering with Latham as he has shown some real talent at a young age, but what ever made anyone think Santner is a good idea?

Especially now we have a good batsman in Raval who can bowl spin just as well if not better.

De gran Homme I can understand this test as we didnt have many pace bowlers available.

I just hope they learn to call it quits, Santner needs serious batting coaching as he has terrible technique, and his bowling doesnt turn so he needs to learn how to loop it more.

He was given 3 chances in this 41, should have been out for 2.

Let hope Watling can get some support and we can put on another 120 odd within 20 overs. We are going to need a lot of time bowling on this pitch to get SA out again.

yeah but thats Ravals job to see off the new ball and protect the best batsman and then support him, which he did. Santners job is to get on with it in this situation, not only that the fact he even got 40 when should have been out 3 times, he got lucky to even get a SR of 25 odd, should have been out for 2, then continued to just block it which sucked up every over instead of ticking it over like Kane was trying to do.

now watling and Dutchy have come out blocking.

this is where i criticise williamsons captaincy, he DOESNT have the guts to put the foot on the throat that Mccullum did.

I totally agree, watling should be feed the strike to Dutchy who is a natural slogger of the ball, Dutchy got out last innings blocking balls and completely missed a pretty average ball by 8 inches and it clean bowled him.

NZ have no urgency or desire to win this Match. And thats Williamsons job to tell them to go out hard at it.

We wont win if we block out the next 20 overs for 20 runs.

We need another 70 and we need it in about 10-15 overs.

I think Williamson lacks the courage to order his players around, hes too meek.

Dutchy has a 1st class SR of 72 and 10 centuries averaging 35 for Auck, so he has the capability to do what we need right now.

Hes just hit a couple of boundaries, so hopefully he goes on with it.

We only need another 50, time to start hitting it Watling, his SR is down there with Santners. If we do go for it and it comes off and we get another 100, Id say NZ are most likely to win should they bowl as well as they did the first innings.

200 is not an easy score to either get or go well passed to save a test with 4.5 sessions to bat on day 4/5, it plays tricks with the mind and last innings is usually a small score, especially knowing you have to get 200 just to save the test.

Morkel again throwing the ball at the player who is in his crease, sure if hes down the wicket, but what a flappn coward poor sport. Cant handle getting spanked.

South Africa have been clocked at 1.5 minutes between each over, thats 2.5 hours a day wasted.

I agree with Simon Doull, fees dont work, they should be penalised runs, ie like hes saying if you are 5 overs behind in a day, the opposition get 40 runs added to their total. That certainly would stop it immediately as there is no point deliberately being a bad sport.

Or as Smitty said, tell them they are down a wicket for bowling so slowly. In this situation that would work where as the runs probably wouldnt. Maybe a combination of both depending on how bad they have been.

SAFAs have definitely been bad, trying to draw this test.

Watling out, ok its time for NZ to hit that 50 runs we need,

Here we go Dutchy and Henry running at around a combined SR of 85

If we can get to that 200 well before Tea and have a crack at them before Tea, it could be a tricky time.

Well done Dutchy, thats how you play Santner.

edit: ugggh Henry holes out. Patel now needs to just feed it to DG to smash it around.

Well done DG, big quick score, just what we needed.

Hopefully our half .... bowling team can pick up the 10 wickets in 4.5 sessions.

So my team all being fit for end of the year would be

Player - First Class Avg:

J Raval : 43
T Latham: 41
K Williamson: 48
R Taylor 43
Colin Munro 53 (SR 98)
M Guptil 38
BJ Watling 39

Bowlers: Runs per wicket (Avg)

T Southee 28
T Boult 27
N Wagner 26
L Ferguson 24 (by far our most dangerous bowler)

And spinner options, both Leg Break wrist spinners Ish Sodhi 40, Javet Raval 50 (already in the team as batsman).

That for me is our highest run scoring team and most lethal bowling team, by a long shot. I think having a break until November we should send T Latham, L Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, M Guptil (to get use to batting at 6) to get a lot of experience, 16 1st class county games in a season. Latham needs a specialist left hand coach, Ferguson needs shane bond to help him work on moving the ball and bowling accurate 150kph+ yorkers, some consultancy from the great wrist spinner Shane Warne for Ish Sodhi would be gold and Guptil just needs to get back into playing 50 over cricket in a test match, getting use to not having that openers pressure on him.

Cant see anything but a NZ win barring nor more than half a day is rained out but looking at the forecast it looks golden for a full days play.

Especially with an early start.

Get Wagner and Henry bowling yorkers and those wide seamers through the gate.

We should never have picked 2 spinners the first match and we should never have drawn it in a similar position, partly Williamsons lack of guts as a captain and partly Latham scoring no runs and dropping 200 runs. Then losing boult due to being over bowled.

But surely Kane cant draw this one.

Love your passion but your too critical. You cant pick teams once the game is underway a few sessions to see the track. You put down sown batsman or bowlers if they don't do what you want today. Remember we are a low ranked team. Not a lot of depth, and with any injuries no depth. They arent machines, they cant just get 7 an over when it suits.

If we win, its due to one man.

If you want to get rid of Larsen, thats ok, as long as all the many others that also managed the players and team and tactics, also go too, such as Kane and Ross, and other senior players that all work together as the management team.

At the end of the day, they know more than your or I do, that for certain.

But I do like your passion! No harm intended by this post!

im not including any players after the match started... not sure what you mean, thats my team come november end of this year.... not for this match.

i think our 2nd string pace bowlers have done any amazing job given the task at hand.
