Full disclosure - Liverpool fan here.

I have to say that it has been refreshing to see it so tight in the top 6/8 of the league at this stage of the season. Whether it stays that way as the season goes on is anyone's guess, but it can only be good the for neutral to have so many competitive teams contesting for top spot in the league. That goes for ManU too, good to see OGS doing well. I always thought David Moyes was on a hiding to nothing when he got the job after Sir Alex..

While obviously the injuries haven't helped, I think the form of our front three has also dipped. Which shows in the lack of goals we're scoring. Hopefully they bounce back soon..

But just a minor correction @1024kb, that Burnley loss at Anfield broke a 68-game unbeaten run in the PL at home... :)

Never been so pissed at a ‘pool victory over United as in 2000 which broke our 36 game streak from ‘98. The loss was mitigated by the EPL title in all 3 seasons though.

Hard to see any team ever beating Chelsea’s 86 game run (ended by Liverpool).

Good to see Man Utd on top but it's a long season and it's pretty tight at the top. Liverpool have been hit hard by injury with VVD and Joe Gomez (both first choice Centre backs out injured long term as well as Joel Matip. Not sure what the reference to Thiago Silva fits in as he plays for Chelsea? You weren't thinking of Fabinho, the Brazilian midfielder drafted in as a CB? Long term Man Utd supporter here but even I have realistic expectations of the team and slight sympathy to Liverpools injury woes.

Whoops, Thiago Alcantara. My bad.

Yes, unexpected blip there vs Sheffield United. Not the first time they’ve beaten us either, so I’m hoping for a little bit of historical repetition.

The last loss to the Blades was 1992 (they’re not often a Premier League team). 1992 is a noteworthy year for United - as in Class of ‘92 when the introduction of a bunch of teenage kids, Gary & Philip Neville, Nicky Butt, David Beckham & the great Paul Scholes (Ryan Giggs debuted the previous season) resulted in embarrassment for former Chelsea & England midfielder & then TV pundit Alan Hudson. After the season opening 3-0 loss to Chelsea he said to the camera “you don’t win the league with a bunch of teenage kids” - Ferguson & his kids proved him well wrong by taking the title home. Even after the Sheffield United loss.

Lose the battle, win the war.

You forgot to comment on the Arsenal game, in which a lackluster Man United team failed to beat a mid table Arsenal team.

Also, while Liverpool did lose to Southampton (against 11 men mind you), it was actually Burnley that ended Liverpool's unbeaten home run..

Just too delighted to worry about details. But to summarize both our posts in one:

United & Liverpool have both recently played 2 mid-table teams. Liverpool lost both, to Burnley & Southampton. Manchester got a point at Arsenal & took Southampton apart 9-0.

There. Fixed it.

Interesting fact: 83.33% of your posts on this thread contain information relating to Liverpool.

No mention of Man City, who happen to have 2 games in hand and a greater goal difference (even with your lucky 9-0 win)

I actually referred to them as title favourites - for me, that’s not an easy thing to do. I’d rather shave my head with a cheese grater than see Citeh win anything, ever. (My reference was using the term “our noisy neighbours” originally coined by Sir Alex.) They are going to be hard to beat. The financial backing Citeh have (hedge fund & oil) means they don’t need to grow a team, they can simply buy one. Which they’ve done. Haven’t made any progress at all in Europe, but another EPL title could be theirs this year.

Anyway, let’s up that Liverpool %age huh? Because by default Brighton became my other favourite team during their match today. And this morning’s result from Anfield is..... Liverpool 0 - 1 Brighton & Hove Albion. 🥳

Manchester United is the 3rd most valuable football club in the world only behind the 2 spanish giants, so I probably wouldn't go claiming poverty/its not fair against City.

Most valuable vs money available to spend are two quite different things.

United's % of debt to value, at 19% is far higher than any other club in the top 10. City have 0 debt, & problems with trying to hide the non-earnings cashflow sent their way by the Arabs. United as a club suffer from the error of the Glaser purchase - the cash flows outward. As investors, the Americans are entitled to draw cash  - which they do hard & fast.

Barcelona, the 2nd most valuable team on Forbes rankings, couldn't pay their team wages this month (they pay twice a year) & are mired in debt even after receiving 220m for Neymar not so long ago. Still 2nd most valuable though.

I don't claim poverty or it's not fair on United ever. Ever. United can beat any team on any day, & don't count them out until the game is over.

I'd like to correct that for you:

Southampton came up against Lee Mason and Mike Dean (again), who assisted Man U to a win over a 9-man team who were without 9 of their regular starting eleven, due to illness, injury and suspensions.

I don't think the score would have been much different had we not had the two players sent off (one was a stone cold red card and well deserved), but we at least would have had a couple of goals and (as has been proven) would not have had one of our players sent off wrongly.

If I were a Man U fan, I wouldn't be crowing too much about this result to be honest...
