kobiak:

Scotland team management is threatening with legal actions if their game got canned. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=12275509

this is getting serious now.

They didn't seem so concerned when the typhoon was potentially going to hit Fukuoka and affect the Ireland - Samoa game...

https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/rugby/993933/scotland-in-japan-irelands-final-pool-game-could-be-cancelled-because-of-hurricane-haggis/

It's a horrid situation but everyone knew the rules going in.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/oct/11/world-rugby-contingency-plan-typhoon-hagibis-england-france-scotland-japan-cup

Agreed, WR failed. They had extensive plans for other venues. Then they say logistics too difficult to get supporters there. Supporters being fans. Matches have been cancelled, so who cares if some games are re located so that pool play can be considered complete? Teams, and a few cameras and no spectators doesnt matter. Not only have they not catered for the RWC correctly, and they had plans to, they cancelled two games when the typhoon was so far away, where as they can do, they change course. Tell everyone that deem them as to be cancelled, but we will make a final decision when its 100% clear they are to be cancelled. Thats what they are doing to the other two games.

But, having said that, there were many other locations that they could have played, fans or no fans. Cancel the games and there is no fans so what does that matter?

Yokohama were SCO vs JPN should be cancelled, its arguable closer than Tokyo to the hurricane. Its only Japan. There is the answer.

That's all rubbish in this modern day. Fly to South
Korea and play in closed doors. Find an indoor ground and play cameras are not of concern.

Don't need to do every match but sco-jap deserves it.

Just now that if ab vs eng can't be played England will advance on countback

Read it. Fly to SK? Loopy!   They cancel Tokyo when its 1200km away. They dont cancel Yokohama which is marginally closer to the hurricane. They had other venues in North and South Japan, but no. Then its too late as fans cant travel 500 miles , so who cares about fans when you just want pool games to be fair. Who cares about countback etc, thats not relevant.

SCO-Japan doesn't serve it any more to less than anyone else.

Tony need to do every match? Agree if we get rid off minnows as they waste time. Btu its a world cup, so fair about, but lets not worry about some and worry about others? Crazy

Hardly. Is it an opinion that we hold an event where everyone has a fair chance? Where if there is an issue that any contingencies that can mitigate these are put into action? If we cant hold Tokyo we cant hold Yokohama thats blatantly obvious

if it's the same stadium then make them play before the ireland match, in an empty stadium if needed.

it's not rocket science

I'm significantly more confident in the Japanese civil defence authority than what you think is blatantly obvious.

Do you really think that the Japanese authorities are stupid and don't know what they are doing? World Rugby has cancelled games based on what the Japanese authorities recommend not based on their own weather knowledge.

Whether or not there should have been a different option for contingencies is a separate issue.

There should probably be a seperate thread for this, it's going in the same direction as some other topics on here.

No its not a seperate direction at all. You commented that its a safety issue. Dont infer I feel the Japanese authorities are stupid. I would consider you the most level headed of all venting and ranting and one eyed posters here. You stated its a safety issue. Is it unsafe in Tokyo?. Potentially a huge yes. But Yokohama is fine?? Obviously not. But it is as they should cancel the unimportant SCO vs JPN game, but they won't. As has been stated here already, the decisions are based on the teams who are competing for the RWC and who have chance of that title, not teams such as SCO or JPN. SCO vs JPN should OBVIOUSLY be cancelled as its a safety issue. Or is the Japanese civil defence authority confident that a game a stones throw from Tokyo, and closer to the hurricane but happens to be a game invoking their host nation Japan is absolutely fine? Thats a joke. It should already have been cancelled, thats the issue. Or whoever organised this event should have done it properly. Its very conceivable that when tae day arrives its a lovely day, such is the difficulty in assessing hurricane behaviour. But SOME games were canceled when it was 1200km away, and some WEREN'T. I wonder what the reactions would be if some other teams were adversely affected by a non rugby event.

So much for sportsmanship, this may as well be boxing.

It seems that as it doesn't adversely affect NZ its fine, and we dont care about countries that can't win the RWC. No wonder union is on the decline here, the lack of fairness and sportsmanship is shocking. We can take the one eyed cantabrians as a culture thing, nothing deep, just a very cool culture issue, but it seems to be deep seated here.

Give it a rest, casting moral aspersions at anyone who doesn't agree with you is getting really tiresome.

The forecast for Sunday is significantly better than Saturday. If the typhoon has gone through then Sundays games may be able to take place.

Disneyland plans to reopen at midday Sunday etc so they think the typhoon will have passed through.

Tiresome is better than bias. Why is a game in Tokyo cancelled days ago, and a game in Yoko isn't?
