Earbanean:

Clarke is clearly better in the air than the others and particularly Reece.  He's a little out of form at the mo due to lack of game time this year, but was the clear incumbent left wing last year.  The aerial battle is going to be really important against better opposition.  I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the futures we see Love on right wing and Clarke on left.  That won't be now though as they need to rest Jordan and try to get his knee right.

On another note, I'm happy Razor finally listened to me and moved one of our locks to blindside.  Shame Vaa'i's now injured, but I hop they go back to that in future.  Add Sititi back at 8 and I'm really liking that combo.

I suspect the move from Lock to Blindside was a Bryn Evans suggestion. We have struggled with lineout for sometime, but especially last year. Height in the lineout definitely helps.

I am unconvinced by Finau at Blindside right now. He was good last year, but really struggled for the Chiefs in the second half of the season, ending up a bit of a penalty and error magnet. His issues were both pretty noticeable in the loss to the Blues at home in the finals and in the final against the Crusaders. I'd be pretty unhappy if he carried that form into a black jersey.

Clarke out for 6-8 Weeks, so that makes it pretty likely that it will be Reece and Reiko, or Reece and Narawa.

France would move to second and drop the AB's to Fourth in World Rankings if they win. Razor won't want that, so I had suggested throwing the kitchen sink at changes, but they may opt for a slightly more conservative selection this week. I think it's pretty likely Jordie won't play, they will have seen what they wanted from him.  I'd be very tempted to play Love at 10, and Beauden at 15.

Nah, I don't agree with that.  IMHO constantly moving Barrett (or DMac, or anyone else) back and forth between 10 and 15 isn't good for them - or the team.  If he's a 10, then keep him at ten and if he's not starting at 10, then have him on the bench. I reckon the constant switching and uncertainty undermined his game and confidence.

I like Love at 10, but think the ABs probably need more 15 cover, so I'd start him there and rest Jordan.  As I've said before, I really worry about how they play guys who are carrying injuries.  Jordan is way too important to risk injuring him further.

I'd have Love at 15 this week, but suspect going forward they may have him at 14 when Jordan's back - like they did with Cory Jane, Ben Smith and Jordan.  I like super fast wings in Super rugby, but in tests, the aerial game is way more important.  Love doesn't give up any speed anyway over Reece.  SA are super lucky with wings like Kolbe who are electric fast AND great in the air.  I guess it's more the game they get growing up through the grades.

Probably a fair point about switching players, but I'd somewhat argue if you asked BB if they would rather play 15/10 and switch around or either come off the bench or not be in the team they would opt for game time.

We are in serious need of some depth in our 10's and Love in the next cab off the rank in my opinion.

Agree Jordan shouldn't play, it's time to rest those carrying niggles.

Agree we need to develop test quality depth at 10, but I reckon we also badly need to develop depth at 15 as well.  If Jordan is injured and we're playing the World Cup final on Saturday, then we don't have another specialist 15.  We'd have to play Barrett or DMac there.  I'd rather have Love as a test experienced 15 ready to go - and he has great utility value for WCs.

While we are short of test quality 10s, I reckon our 10 pipeline is bloody good.  Cameron, Perofeta, Jacomb and Reihana all have potential.  Time will tell which one(s) step up to test level - probably for the next World Cup cycle and beyond.  Also, remember, there's a strong chance Mounga will be back before 2027, so we shouldn't be panicking for this WC cycle.

All Blacks squad to play France

1. Ethan de Groot, 2. Samisoni Taukei’aho, 3. Tyrel Lomax, 4. Patrick Tuipulotu, 5. Fabian Holland, 6. Samipeni Finau, 7. Ardie Savea, 8. Luke Jacobson, 9. Cortez Ratima, 10. Damian McKenzie, 11. Rieko Ioane 12. Quinn Tupaea, 13. Anton Lienert-Brown, 14. Sevu Reece, 15. Ruben Love.

Reserves
16. Brodie McAlister, 17. George Bower, 18. Fletcher Newell, 19. Dalton Papali’i, 20. Du Plessis Kirifi, 21. Noah Hotham, 22. Timoci Tavatavanawai, 23. Will Jordan.

I am surprised Norris isn't in the team, let alone starting. I am little surprised Taylor isn't going to get his hundreth in NZ, but I can also understand why.  Finau needs to have a big game and one that's low on penalties.  I am disappointed Proctor won't get more time at 13.

I wouldn't have played Jordan at all, to give him time to rest and recover from what looks to be a niggle, but I guess they are worried about the relative inexperience in the backline.

“I’m not complaining about the refereeing, I’m not complaining about anything. What I do know is that you have a group of French players who will be showing up on Saturday.

By absolute definition he is complaining about the refereeing.  Having said that, he does have a point about a couple of the things he mentioned. I thought Reiko looked offside at the time, but didn't care enough to examine it, given the whistle blew and we went back for a penalty.

I didn't notice Jordies 'infringement', but don't doubt he is correct. Whether they deserved yellow and a penalty try.....

Resfhuffle for the AB's as Reiko is withdrawn due to Hamstring tightness.

Will Jordan starts on the Wing and Jordie moves to the bench.

Not ideal for anyone I imagine.

Tighter than I'd hoped for last night, but didn't really feel like we were at risk of losing other than a few minutes in the first 20.

I don't think having so many Chiefs on the field at the same time really worked for us. Ratima should be on the bench, and MacKenzie continues to prove he isn't a test level 10. Trade mark aimless kicking out of the hand and questionable decisions at times. Comparing his kicking to the Lions 10 it's chalk and cheese (The Lions 10 found grass or managed to turn the opposition around).

Holland with another huge shift, patty T has had 2 decent games in a row, he was a bit quieter this week than last, but nothing to really complain about.

The gulf between Taylor and the next best choices in Hooker is massive, as is the difference between Barrett and MacKenzie, Roigard and the next best choice. I think our props are all fairly solid, we have some genuine depth there.

I don't think Tupea and ALB were particularly in sync, which is probably a combination of lack of game time together and ALB having his first rugby in a while. I don't think Tupea is the answer at centre.

Both Wings were very solid.

Love had an outstanding game.

One thing we need to change up, is where our kickers kick from in the 20m zone. Often despite not being under pressure, They will kick from the 10m, instead of taking a few extra meters, which would force the opposition back further on their own ball.

Our exits are better, but still could use some work (partially related to the point above).

I can't get my head around Saveas attempted kick through on our own 10m line, though you'd forgive him a lot considering other parts of his game.

I was wildly unimpressed by our red in the U20s loss. There was clear mitigation by the fact there was already a tackle on the affected player. Meanwhile the SA player comes from a distance and with no mitigation collides with the head and gets yellow. It's BS.

Perhaps it wouldn't have changed the outcome, SA had forwards dominance and defensively were excellent, but defending for 20 with one less player is going to impact the team at the end for their own defence.

The irony last night of seeing Owen Farrell take exception to someone putting a high tackle on one of his players in the Lions match last night,  was hilarious.

Farrell was in some form last night though, he was involved in most of the Lions tries.

The Wallabies looked a little scary in the first half, if that is what's coming next month, we need to be careful.

I think the Wallabies could rightfully feel they were stiffed at the end of that 2nd match, I think in almost every other situation, the contact that resulted from the clean out would have been a penalty at least.
